I think that includes social workers, psychologists, speech pathologists, etc. It's not students per se, be people who provide services to students.
That very well could be, it says 71 under LEA and an additional 13 under other headings for a total count of 84.

I understand cut admin to save money, but on another thread everyone is for this program to check your students grades, tests etc. (at Churchill). What kind of help would the LPS have to hire to help these teachers input all this data. A teacher only has so many hours in a day to get everything done. With that being said, we cut admin. but hire more tech support. I don't understand.
Use student assistants, as far as I understand the schools already do this on a limited basis, strive to make this a larger part of fitting into the cirriculum, expand the usage, and let more students earn credits. Challenge students by making the development and creation of applications/software/systems/etc... that will benefit the schools part of the core cirriculum, so they can earn math or science credits ( remember the credit requirements are going to go up ). Engage the students, teachers, and staff in projects that identify processes, monitor them, measure them, break down waste and inefficiency, help create new processes, and help institute them. This could also be a credit earning course. Partner with Colleges to allow College students to work with the School District and the students to assist in any of the above. Many Colleges have internship programs. A great way for students to get a first look at post graduation education.
What I am saying with all of this is....get creative and innovative without tearing up the entire district. There are soooo many better ways of satisfying your customer....and always remember who is the customer here.

In Farmington at the school I teach at we aren't allowed to use student assistants. I believe this is the case all the way through. With NCLB there are a lot more graduation requirements and there isn't enough time in the day for students to get what they need and help teachers and counselors. Also, when we did have them it changed every couple of weeks and it took more time to train somebody to do the job.
The more the state asks teachers to do the less students have the ability to choose.

It will only get more difficult if the math, science, and language cirriculum increases as proposed. That is why retaining teachers, increasing efficiency, and eliminating waste should be the prime objective.

Does anyone think the BOE will ever answer our questions? Yesterday I decided to write the board another letter. Today I had a returned email from Lessard. He said he doesn't open mail from someone he doesn't know. What kind of bull is that?

I too sent an email to JAM a couple of days ago and she has not responded. I even reminded her that I was still waiting, but she is not going to reply. Of course, my email to her reminded her of how she said back in DEC that no children would be arriving home after 4:30. Clearly, she misspoke yet again!

The Department of Student Services does, indeed, include social workers, psychologists, teachers of the speech and language impaired, resource room teachers, center program teachers, teachers of the visually impaired, etc. This department provides services to students. It is not a program that provides "student assistants."

That is so weird. He doesn't know me and I sent him an email about 2 weeks ago and he replied to it immediately.

I think this reaction maybe instructions from the LPS attorneys. Just my thoughts!

Sounds like he turned his spam blocker up to only accept emails from people in his address book. I am just guessing, but he may be getting a few emails these days.
