Grant1- I understand this whole mess has been upsetting for everyone(including the supporters). I have friends on both sides. Someone suggested to me to come here and find out the facts. |

No matter what you try some people will just be snippy and find fault. Some are trying to inject some sarcasm and humor into this site. You people need to loosen up. The road ahead is loooong. Laugh when you can and, DANCE TO THE MUSIC!!! |

I didn't state my stand on the issue. Do you think personally attacking ones parenting skills is helpful? |

Please don't make your decision the LI based only on what is on this site. There are a lot of personal opinions including mine posted here. Go to the LPS site and review the demographic committees presentation to the BOE on November 14, 2006. This will give you a start as to why some of us are so angry with the Board and the school district. The Demographic committee was a representation of LPS employees, board members, union members and 4 parents. There were a total of 40 people on the committee. The BOE members didn't follow the MASB rules and listen to the community as a whole. They should of step back and said , lets wait and see. We need further investigation. But their opinions were biased, since four out of the 7 members were on the Demo committee in some form or another. How can one make an unbiased decision when they are part of the deicision making process. They can't, it's human nature when you are involved in a project, not to interject personal feelings from others around you. So please read past articles, call LPS and see if you can review past meetings. Especially the one @ Churchill. Attend the BOE meeting if you can. If you can't you can watch them on channel 15 in Livonia or channel 19 in Westland. If you don't have cable, they have it @ the rec center. Try to get unbiased information to make your views. We sometimes to use scarcasm on this site, but we need to blow off a little steam! Take care and hope to hear from you again! www.masb.org |

The CFLF website is a good source of information. You should also check out the reserach links there. |

momof one- Thank you for your polite understanding. Although I am torn both way, I don't want to come across as a supporter or an opposer. I have been at most meetings, including the one at Churchill. When this all came out back in October (I think), the biggest concern was the children going to Cooper (at least in my area). I really didn't have a problem with that, only because it angered me that it was OK for the students going there now, but not anyone else. We could argue about a lot of things from bussing, to start time ect. but the complaints are so little. When I went to school I started at 9:00 and didn't get out till 4:15. Really it wasn't that bad, I still had time for after school stuff, homework and family time. And I think I turned out OK. I have not been a fan of the LI, and do not like some of the changes, but the recall is the part I'm torn about. I can't see replacing people whom we trusted for so long and put in complete strangers to make a path for our childrens future. There is nothing to prove that those people will change everything. That is my concern. Again thank you. |

Alot of us have similar feelings. But what choice have they given us? They forced us down the recall road. We did not go willingly, we kicked and screamed, begged and pleaded over and over again, to no avail. |

It would have been simple...put it out for a vote...if it was voted in, there would have been no problem. It would have been obvious that's what the majority wanted. Don't go shoving it down our throats. |

Me3D, I respect your position. I just moved to this community, so I have no history of trusting the current BOE. On the CFLF site, there are links to newspaper articles with quotes of a few of the current board members being completely against school closings in 2003. I probably would have liked them better in 2003. I want the best education for my children, 2nd best is not good enough. I weighed the facts presented to me and have made the decision to actively oppose the LI. I feel this is an important cause. I also feel that the recent furor may provide a much better field of candidates for a new board of education, as well as a more active and diverse participation by the voters in the up coming school board elections. |

Me3D, Your comment about the Cooper site has frustrated me. I for one am not complaining about the current situation at Cooper. What has me angry about the Cooper site staying open is the fact that the old Cooper site is slated to be built upon very soon. This you see, is the reason for concern, once that property is disturbed there is no telling what will be floating in the air. This is what scares me. As far as your comment about not caring about the current children who attend Cooper needs to be addressed. There are many schools in Livonia, I for one do not know where every school is, nor do I know all the facts about each school. But when I am told my children will be attending such and such a school, that is when I get my facts about those schools. So to fault us parents who now show concern over a school now but not in the past is really not fair. |

On another note, I also have a problem with a board that has trustees that hold their seats for such long periods of time. Term limits might be a good idea. I personally feel that a person on the board for ten years is way to long, and they may lose sight of the reason their on the Board. Arrogance begins to set in and the feeling of "I'm untouchable" needs to be dealt with. I truly think that the community has had their eyes opened to a Board of Education that has been able to do what they want, when they want for far too long. Those days are gone. |

This is what I agree with strongly!!! There should be term limits.. When one gets to cozy they think they are always right, and they think they know what is right for everyone. I am not saying that they have not done good in the past (because I was not here). There needs to be a change!! |

Grant- I deeply feel that my childrens education will not be 2nd best, I believe LPS will have top schools no matter what decision will be made on Friday. 49chevy- I believe a vote is what should have been done, but on the other hand we (I did vote) voted them in to make those kinds of decisions. grantmom- There should be term limits!!! How do we change that?? Do you honestly believe that if they were to disturb the land across from Cooper and found something LPS would stand by and not do something about it??? |
