I'm from Kennedy and also know quite a few people who are opposed to the LI. Also have heard from several senior citizens who do not support this either.

I would be amazed to see anything but a vast majority of CFLF members coming from a small number of schools. [/QUOTE]
Well it looks like all our posts blow this theory

Thanks Roosevelt, Randolph, Tyler, Kennedy,Taylor, Adams and Hull for chiming in.

Back to my thought about a demographics study of your own showing that there is equal distribution of opposers against the LI?

What about:
Buchannan
Cass
Cleveland
Coolidge
Cooper
Garfield
Hayes
Hoover
Johnson
McKinley
Nankin Mills
Washington
Webster
(not to mention the four jr. highs and the 3 high schools?)

These schools threads on this forum have remained largely inactive. These schools represent thousands of LPS families and things have gone on pretty much as normal in these school communities. Certainly, there will be some from each school opposed and I don't doubt that you have had at least one member from each school attending meetings at St. Mary's.

Is it so much to acknowledge that the opposition is concentrated to a minority of the total school communities? I won't debate your passion, just the claim that there is equal opposition "throughout" Livonia.

anothermon,
I wouldn't base your decision just on the responses you got from your post. I have lived in Livonia for a long time and have lived in three areas in three different houses. I have friends in many areas of Livonia who are against the LI, and although they may not have repsonded, it only means that they do not use this forum or just did not wish to respond. There are many people who are not for the LI, and prefer not to post. I know several parents just in my child's class who feel this way.

I know dozens of people that are against the LI that never even look at this forum let alone post. Many in the steering committee of CFLF never post here. Many opposers do not actually consider themselves "members" of CFLF, as there is no particular definition of what that means and no one is carrying a membership card.

What I do know is that we have had a growing number at community meetings and a HUGE turnout at the last one. So many felt like this was a done deal from the begining because of the way it was rolled out and initially figured there was nothing they could do. Many of them are now knocking on doors and manning various stations across the city gathering signatures. People who were once resigned now believe that they can make a difference!

LI-opposers have been helping in a variety of ways. Some may just make donations but will not or cannot give their time. Others have organized and more have attended fundraising events. Some help with written material, signs or buttons. Many spend hours every day talking about and convincing others of the downside of the LI and others will only make their statement at the voting booth. Some have signs in their yards but so many do not but are still in opposition to this plan.

The best way that I can judge is by the reactions of people in central locations as I ask them to sign the petitions. I have no doubt at all that the majority are against the LI, but I suppose there is no easy way to prove this to anyone who has not experienced this themselves. I have even been quite happy to find many Westland residents ready and willing to sign petitions, despite rumors that they would not.

There may be an uneven distribution of LI opposers in various areas...just as there is an uneven distribution of supporters. I don't see how that would lead one to assume that we are a small group. We are not small. We greatly outnumber the people who support the LI. You are fooling yourself if you choose to believe otherwise.

I find, depending on where you live, you may or may want your position known.

There are plenty of people in the Northeast area of Livonia that oppose this plan,
but are not making their position public (by that I mean posting, writing letters to the editor of the O & E, etc.)

Of course, everyone will know the truth soon enough. ;)

I agree, many are supporting this cause in their own way, not just posting on the forum. I showed my support today by wearing my "Recall the Board" pin to the library, Walgreens, to the gas station and to Laurel Park Mall. Last week I bought a sign. So there is support everywhere.

What are your thoughts then about the LI supporters? What is your perception about the number of LI supporters and where they come from?

I ask this because a handful have refuted my perceptions about the size of the opposition, so I'm just curious about your perceptions. Some commented that people oppose in different ways and many of those against the LI don't visit the forum. You say some don't want their names know because of where the live, etc. Couldn't the same be said for supporters? How can you be so certain that the "majority" oppose the LI?

I think I heard we have 10,000 families in LPS (please correct me if you have a current census of LPS families). True that not all opposers "register" with CFLF, but knowing the number of "registered" members- (even turning over the data to the papers?) might be a good way to add merit to the majority claims. I just don't see it.

I really don't know how many supporters there are. I'm not even sure if it matters....to be honest....I haven't given it much thought.

Why are you so interested in how many opposers there are?

There is no list of registered members to the best of my knowledge. I know I never registered for anything but I have volunteered to help and have shown up at events and meetings. Perhaps those on the CFLF steering committee can comment on that.

We have no real way to judge the number of supporters other than our individual experiences asking people to sign petitions. My perception is that there are very few that truely support (as in like and want) the LI. There are some that either don't care or don't think it effects them, but then these folks are probably less likely to bother voting. I guess we can't count them as opposers or supporters. It's hard to nail down numbers either way, but we are certainly growning fast!

At one time CFLF was asking people to contact them through e-mail to be on "the list". I believe there was reference to the attorney wanting to have this information for argument. That is what I was referring to.

But I am curious about the number of families represented by LPS students. Can anyone find that information in anything that has been posted (here or with LPS)?

I have never heard the number of families only that we had 17,000 kids.

I've never heard that either. I do know that you could give you email address so you could be emailed info on meetings, fundraisers, etc but never on giving info about LPS. I don't think the attorney needs evidence from us, he got it all from LPS!
