Taylor and Hoover are merging. The transition team gets to plan whatever they want to help the kids with the transition. The catch - the transition team has to ask the PTA for the money to do it. Once again, the school district is "dumping" the transition responsibilities on the parents. Therefore, schools with little PTA cash will have LESS transition activities than the schools with excess cash. Is this fair? |

My personal opinion is that all PTA funds should be "frozen" at this point until everything has been determined by the courts, by the distinct possibility of a successful recall, and the placement of a new BOE and LPS Administrator. PERIOD |

No one has the authority to freeze PTA funds except PTA Members, besides most PTA's made budgets for before this plan was introduced. How are we supposed to pay for Battle of Books, Ice Cream Socials... If our funds are frozen? I went to our school transition meeting. No one ever mentioned spending PTA money on these activities. That may be a specific situation at your school. The transition team can suggest PTA pay for whatever it thinks they should. No money should be spent without a vote of all members at a meeting |

Good point & true - very true. My statement was not that anyone but PTA membership should do this since they have the rights as voting membership of the PTA. I guess if one school decides to authorize PTA funds to be used for transition activities, and another does not, that is thier choice. Again, my statement was one of context and not direction. |

gr1, What school are you from. I think I would like to send my child their. Ice Cream Socials, Battle of the Books. Wow. We haven't had a Battle of the Books since my oldest almost 19 was at our school. IT IS A GREAT PROGRAM. I wish more schools would do it. Also Ice Cream Social that sounds like fun. If one thing I have learned on this forum is that not every LPS does things the same. |

You're right - there are alot of differences between the schools. It will be VERY intersting to see if our kids were taught the same too. Even though we follow the same curriculum I'm betting that you will see distinct differences at the 5/6 level - especially in Math. Time will tell if/when the schools are mixed together. |
