Did everyone hear that the State of Michigan is giving an additional $25 bucks per pupil? That is about $450,000 grand or so to the district. Please dont hold me on the actual number...hubby is the accountant...not me. DO you think the BOE knew about it before making the decision? Okay...I know...its supposed to be bucks..not buck! Thanks to the hubby for pointing it out.....geeezz

I heard about a $175 per pupil increase. They say that will cover the state-mandated increase in retirement benefits for the teachers. |

This may be what you are thinking of... Passed in the House (66 to 44) on June 22, 2005, the House version of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2005-2006 school aid budget. This appropriates $12.783 billion in gross spending, compared to $12.467 billion authorized for the current year, and $12.808 billion proposed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm. The budget increases the per-pupil foundation grant to schools by $175, with an extra $25 for schools receiving less than $7,200 per student. [Vote Details and Comments] |

I heard the same info on the Channel 7 news last night. An additional $25 per student due to declining enrollment in Michigan. It was approved by Granholm I believe. |

The extra $25 will only be available t o Title 1 schools. Hopefully next school year the state won't retractively take it back as they have for 3 of the past 5 years. "Here's extra money for you public schools...." come March... "Um sorry can't have it... |

Title 1 schools receiving less than $7200? That doesn't make sense. |

I heard this on "the news." Their exact words were lower income schools, which I translated to Title 1. I don't know if the extra money granted to Title 1 schools is directly related to the foundation grant. I think Garden City's foundation grant is between $6-7,000 (?) I'm sure that there is at least one Title 1 school there. I don't think the entire district would get their grant raised because a portion of their schools are classified as Title 1. I am pretty certain that Title 1 funds are exclusive of foundation grant money. They are also pretty specific as to what the school is supposed to spend it on. I'm confused now as to whether this extra $25 is for Title 1 schools or for any school district with a foundation grant of <$7,200. I heard one thing, and here something different is posted. |

It all makes sense now. The whole motive behind this entire plan is to make more Title 1 schools so we can get an extra $25 per student. It's Brilliant. And yes I am being sarcastic,,,still trying to figure the logic. |
