I was able to catch some of the BOE meeting last night. I know they were talking about a 2.1 million dollar renovation and George Auch Company was making a bid. Were they talking about Riley or Emerson? They also talked about starting on renovations as early as Spring Break. That's a lot of money. Correct if I am wrong here.

Just answered my own question, it was Emerson. That sounds like a lot of mony and that is only one of the projects they need to do. Of course, the school would need repairs anyway, but put all the other added costs on top....such as buses and so on, and you are spending a lot of money.

They were not tallking about renovations on the building for the LI, but for the replacement of the original 1950s single pane windows and heating vents. This is work that needs to be done and will result in greater energy savings. A portion of the work will be done while students are out of the building during break as it involves some asbestos removal issues from old tiles etc. They also discussed the plan for ordering materials etc. so that the project could be completed over the summer.

They also made perfectly clear (probably for the critical watching audience) that these replacements/repairs would be funded through the sinking fund. Clear cut.. nothing sinister here.

Because we have no reason to believe that the BOE or administration would be---
"SINISTER." They have always been upfront and honest about everything they
do, right??? I completely trust them. No need to keep "a critical eye" on this
BOE.

I think a lot of people are watching those BOE meetings and reading all the minutes, etc. I don't know why though. I'd rather watch "Wheel of fortune" and
"Jeopardy." They are more entertaining and they don't raise my blood pressure.

Besides, if I make the right guesses I win by proxy - better than the BOE - nobody wins

And...Alex Travec is better looking than Mr. Lessard. Not to mention significantly more intelligent (at least he appears to be!)

Remember that they posted for this bid (in the Observer) before the LI was approved.

Yes they did. I was at Monday's meeting. What I found interesting was that they accepted bids for all of the sub-contractors for each trade involved in this project, but the general contractor apparently is one they use for all of their construction projects. A representative from the general contractor LPS uses was there, and it appeared that he and the LPS facilities administrator selected the specific subs they went with (generally the middle priced bidder and they did say they did some leg work to make certain each had the capacity to bring the work in on time.) I assume there has been a good working relationship with this company for a while, but I would have thought that LPS would have been looking for bids from a general contractor for the entire job and then let that contractor deal with all of the subs. It was not handled that way, which seemed odd to me. I'm not saying that there was anything wrong here...perhaps they already negotiated and signed an agreement for a general contractor that would handle all LPS projects.

I know this contractor that LPS is working with has done work for LPS before. They specialize in healthcare and school projects. If this matters, I know they have a good reputation and if LPS is going to pick anybody, this company will do a fine job.

Does anyone know if there is a BOE meeting tomorrow? It's MLK day, so maybe not. I tried to go to the LPS website to look for an agenda, but it is not available right now.
