I dont even think they know apparently. They are going to keep the buildings..incase they are wrong, I guess. That way..we can just go back.

That is what we were told at the first meeting at Stevenson. Incase enrollment goes up..they will still have the buildings. So sounds to me like they are planning on it..what do you think?

Everything is cyclical.
The Seniors who occupy approximately 25% of Livonia are typically parents of many of us that went to school during the 70's and 80's when enrollment was high. Many bought these homes when they were new, or just a few years old. When they vacate their homes (which many wait on due to current tax laws), usually a younger family with kids or planning on kids moves in.
Sooner or later there will be an increase in enrollment as the age demographics change. That is of course, if Livonia is still a desirable School District to attend.

You are absolutely right. The houses in my neighborhood (Adams) have been turning over and there has actually been an increase in enrollment at our school. The original owners who bought them in the mid-1950's are getting older and, most often, a couple with kids or planning to have kids moves in.

By the way, we all need to get those seniors that are our parents out to vote against Joanne Morgan and for the recall of the board! My mom will for sure...

Seems like they don't know their "carrots" from a hole in the ground.

Sounds like they are talking out of both sides of their mouth.  Which is it?
are we going up or down?  I'm so confused.

We have actually had a slight rise in the last few years, but nothing in comparison to the data they used over 30 years to show the decline. I don't get it, I don't buy it.

I don't understand what the board of education plans on doing with the middle and high schools if enrollment goes up. The middle schools will already be at capacity next year. Any little increase in enrollment and they will have to open another middle school. If this happens, are they planning on building a new high school to go along with their "pure feeder" philosophy or will they go back to having four middle schools feeding into three high schools?

Livonia is still one of the most desireable and affordable cities for locating into, or staying within for young couples/families ( well, that was before this mess! ) and it is also an inner ring suburb with close proximity to several major freeways for commuting. Talk to a realtor and see what they say about who has been buying and/or leasing homes in this city in the last several years.

The statements you may hear them use at that time is "This is why we remained flexible", or "Our contingency plans have already accounted for this and we have made provisions to handle increased enrollment" yada, yada, yada...

When I was a kid, many families in the neighborhood had 5-7 kids, some had 10 or more. That's not the case these days.

They really will have no flexibility for increases in enrollment in any of the 5/6, 7/8 or high schools. IF they manage to pull this off the first year without portables, any little increase and the 5/6 or 7/8 schools will have trailers.

Or utilize mothballed schools, re-district the boundries, and shuffle the masses again. It's easy, we did it once, we can do it again...nobody will notice.

Of course... I am being sarcastic! :P
