Hello,
My name is Carie Gors. I have live in Livonia pretty much all my life. When I was growing up here in Livonia I attended Bentley High School. What memories I have of that school. It was the best. Except the day I found out that they (Livonia school board) decided that Bentley needed to close. So for my senior year in high school I had to be shipped off to another school. And because the Livonia school board was so nice they let me choose my school I would like to go to. But I would have to find my own way there. Needless to say I went to Churchill for about 3 month and ended up leaving and not graduating that year. When the kids from Bentley were displaced into these others schools we were harassed and bullied around so much. It would really be interesting to find out how many of us did not graduate that year. I did go back to Bentley when it became a continue education place and received my diploma.
When I started having kids of my own I wanted to raise them here in Livonia and have them go to school where I use to. And because these schools have the best teachers around. When my oldest son was attending Garfield. We were informed that they (Livonia school board) decided that Garfield was to over crowded and they were going to move my son in fifth grade to Grant. So I and a bunch of other parents started a fight against them because how unfair that would be to move a fifth grader to another school. They decided to leave our kids in the school but told us that if we were to have any more kids that they would have to go to Grant. At the time that was OK for me because I was not having any more children. Well then I decided to have another child and he goes to Grant now. Well he did go to Grant he will be in 6th grade next year, so this means that he will lose his friends that he has there and go on to another school. So that makes it three strikes with my family that Livonia school board has taken against my family. And they say Livonia is a great place for a family. HA

I have heard other harrowing stories of bullying and feelings of isolation when kids must transition so many times.

Thanks for sharing.

My kid went through a transition in the third grade. We left private school and also
moved to a different house. It wasn't easy on her that year. She cried a lot.
It was painful for me to see her go through it. It took about three years before she finally felt like she fit in.

The LI involves a lot of transitions for elementary aged students. Will those transitions be easier because they are moving with their peers? I think not.
The schools will be so big that they will feel like the new kid on the block. When they finally feel like they have adjusted, it will be time to move again. This is especially true of shy kids, but I'm sure it will affect all kids in some way.
My child felt adjusted after 3 years. The two transitions are for only two short years.

Fifth and sixth grade are hard years for kids. It's the "tween" years. Torn between being a kid and growing up at the same time. Adding transitions to this age group will be stressful.
