I would also like to make a suggestion to help with organization if it sounds reasonable to all. Place placards on tables in diff areas for each school so you can help facilitate gathering together of those who live in same affected areas, like the schools who are slated to transition to Grant next to the Grant Parents and Neighbors tables, next to the 5/6 schools they are slated to transition to, and so on ( oh heck, might as well map out the room using the LI boundary maps :P j/k ).

Parents in Livonia hire lawyer to fight schools
BY ZLATI MEYER
FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER

January 5, 2006

Livonia Public Schools parents have hired an attorney to help them undo the district's recently approved plan to close schools and reconfigure grades.

Southfield lawyer Mayer Morganroth said Wednesday that he was going to contact the district by the end of the week to explain the position of his client, Citizens for Livonia's Future. If the district will not change its decision, he said, he plans to file suit against the district in Wayne County Circuit Court within 30 days.

"When a board or agency acts arbitrarily and capriciously, it can be overturned by the court," Morganroth said. "In my opinion, they acted arbitrarily and capriciously."

Morganroth has represented Jack Kevorkian and was recently named to attorney Geoffrey Fieger's legal defense team as Fieger fends off a state investigation into possible improper campaign spending.

Morganroth cited numerous issues with the district's decisions, including a claim that the decision wasn't about saving money because the district has a surplus, and that plan the board adopted is more costly.

On Dec. 5, the Livonia Public Schools board approved a plan to reorganize grades into K-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-12 groupings, and to close seven elementary schools. Citizens for Livonia's Future wants to keep the current K-6 grade setup.

Citing decreasing enrollment and financial issues, district officials said the changes will save as much as $2 million during the first year alone.

Has anyone thought of camping out at the senior center and the tax assesors office and handing out flyers for the meeting? Might be worth while to get to some of our neighbors who are not really aware of the impacts of this plan on them, or think that they are not impacted ( yeah...if this goes through watch them take a "can of poop" when they see thier home values dropping or unable to sell thier homes )

Posters note: can of poop used in lieu of a term that most certainly would have gotten edited

"Poop" is acceptable, along with feces, excrement and "dropping the kids off at the pool".

Anyone who is willing to pass out fliers, please download them at citizensforlivoniasfuture.com or send an email to a rep. closest to you, we have fliers for those who can't print their own.

Roosevelt area: lpspropsalsrbad@sbcglobal.net
Hull area: sparty1991@sbcglobal.net
Adams area: gallikrome@earthlink.net
Washington area: jodygirlh@twmi.rr.com

Please help if you can! This effort requires involvement from the whole community. The main group that is organizing all of these meetings and the recall petitions, have hundreds of hours invested. We have been meeting a minimum of once a week, and have had 4 meetings just this past week.

Went very well...lots of attendance and volunteers, as well as good information on the direction being taken and even supportive input from our former mayor Bob Bennet. A great team of dedicated parents gave some very hopeful information.

Volunteer and be a part of the process!
