I emailed my school principal before the break, inquiring about transition teams. She sent home a Transition Activities Interest survey with my son today.
The form has 3 activities to volunteer for:
1) School Transition Teams These teams will consist of parents and staff, and will work on such things as year end/school closing activities, arranging open houses and school visits, organizing welcome and "get to know you" activities, help with PTA transition, and receive and share District Transition team info.
2) District Transition Teams (if you are on a School transition team) These teams will consist of one parent and one staff from each school, with alternates also designated. This team will disseminate info to parents and schools about implementation plans and transition activities, recommend topics for newsletter, facilitate 2-way communication between District and School teams, support transition activities, coordidate Focus Groups.
3) Focus Groups groups of parenst who will meet to receive info or provide input to the District on issues, such as student placement, Specials, before/after school activities and clubs.
I know none of want this to happen, but if our recall/injuction efforts fail and this is a go, I would like to be a part of the decision-making process from here (since we were so conveniently left out from the beginning).
These forms are due back to the principal by January 9, so if anyone wants to be a part of shaping what's going to happen, ask your principal for a form.

One parent from each school? Good thinking. They're weak when you separate them from the herd.

Wonderful, let me see here... A focus group to help with placement of our children from parents who do not know them or their individual learning capabilities. I do not think this is very right.. a disaster again in the making

Ohhhh that stinks bad!!! (my eyes are tearing) I think your poo can is getting too small!! Better get a dumpster now. I have a real problem with another parent having anything to do with where my child is going to be placed. We have not gotten this survey yet.

Grant1 "They should be sending these forms home to every parent in every school!!!!!
EVERY LPS parent DID get a letter in December asking for participation in transition activities and instructing those interested to contact the building principle for more information- where the survey was given out!
Honestly, you LIVE to stir controversy! On this very forumn there were people complaining when they received the letter and a encouraging a "campaign" to send the letters back to the BOE- "Return to Sender". You can't have it both ways- COMPLAIN when they send you an invitation to participate, and then COMPLAIN when you didn't get your personal survey mailed to you.
Since everyone here is so into FACTS, you need to admit when you were mistaken.

The letter that Dr. Liepa sent out said you must contact your principal if interested. They are not sending anything home. I thought I read the deadline to participate was the 6th though. Not sure.

I admit - I was mistaken and should keep to the facts
Now, do you think the BOE could do the same?

The problem with the letter (that came from Leipa) was that it came too late. They didn't send info out to everyone before the decision. They also did not survey all parents and community members prior to making their decision. The letter asking for help---after the fact---is like an insult. That is my opinion. I do not represent everyone here.

Probably just a coincidence, but the use of CAPS, use of "you need to," and inability to use "I" statements, reflects a writing style very similar to another member that very recently stopped posting. Maybe that's just normal ebb and flow, but its great to have someone around that is willing to tell people what they need to do, or stop doing. Otherwise we just exchange ideas and opinions.
