I'm not sure how many are really aware of this, but here is an audience communication excerpt from the BOE meeting on Aug 1st 2005. It lends further creedence to the fact that Grant is already overcrowded at the K level, and will only get worse with the LI. Audience Communications: Elaine Morrison, 11325 Ingram; Stacie Pettit, 8937 Louisiana; Christine Michuta; Deanna Baty, 9628 Westmore; Jodi Engler, 32900 Illinois; Kathy Wickens, 9905 Brookfield; Krista Johnson, 32448 Washington; Brenda Bagazinski, 11404 Ingram; Bethe Warrick, 9605 Berwick; Diana Arnest, 33761 Angeline; Martha Tatro, 32475 Maryland; Sandra Colquhoon-Clark, 33805 Angeline; Kathy D’Antonio, 9331 Colorado; and Deanna O’Dea addressed the Board on the following topics at Grant Elementary School: Kindergarten class size too large; kindergarten overflow to other schools other than Grant; keeping Livonia schools at the top for test scores; splitting up siblings due to overflow in kindergarten; paraprofessionals are needed in the kindergarten classroom due to the amount of academics that are now mandated; moving a kindergarten retention to another school due to overflow; and a petition of 300 signatures from concerned parents in the Grant area on overcrowding. |

This was a huge issue this past summer when children from the neighborhood were slated to overflow to Nankin Mills. I do believe that none of the children in the Grant district did get overflowed....with children moving I think there was room for all...however with the result of the large class size. Last year there were three kindergarten classes at Grant. This year we have two with (I believe) 28 students in each. The one good thing is that the Kindergarten teacher did get a teachers assistant but I don't know for how long. |

Yes, there are 28 students in each kindergarten class. The student teacher that was there for the last few months has now graduated. I do believe there is another student teacher starting today. The para-pro is only part-time. We share her with Hayes. |

Besides the K overcrowding ( 28 is just too large for K class ) I know of 2 families in our neighborhood that were denied the ability to have thier children attend Grant last year since the school was already full. I still can't imagine how they intend on placing the new K-4 classes in the school and still maintain any order. Too many unanswered questions - ahhhhh, but wait, isn't the BOE expecting the parents and teached to figure this out for them? |

Does anyone know how I could get my hands on this? "...and a petition of 300 signatures from concerned parents in the Grant area on overcrowding" |
