Many of us have been speaking to teachers privately about the LI. We have a new member who is a teacher and may be able to give us insight on a tacher's point of view. jaa: What were you told about LI and when? Were teachers told to keep quiet as some have said? Tell us what you really think... |

I am not a teacher but a Para-pro. Will that work? I hear all the same stuff they do. I just don't want to lie and say that I am something that I am not. I am almost finished with my teaching degree if that helps. Just a little more to go. I wrote it somewhere else but I will write it here. We were told on the very same night. Most went to Churchill I went to my home school. No one told me I could not. At no time did anyone ever tell me to keep quiet and anyone else I know. Any information that you have had we have gotten it at the same time. That is the God's honest truth. Everything is timed out the same. We are all waiting to hear what is going on with our jobs. People on the bottom are worried and very unsure. I have friends who are teacher so they are telling me the same. I think that all of you need to understand that the staff is going to be hit also, many twice because we have kids in LPS. Times have been hard for awhile in LPS and it is just sad to see all of this anger. I will write more if more info is given when we are back to school. One last thing if I could. We who work for your kids love them. Don't take it out on us and turn on us. I have heard some saying that they felt this group was going to do this. I don't know that to be true. I am only writing what I hear. |

Why would we be mad at the teachers? It's not their fault! I have a problem with the process. We went from point A to point B too fast! |

Thanks jaa, From your comments it sounds like there should be no reason the teachers union is not making as much noise as the public... can you tell us why we have not publicly heard from the personnel ( teachers, para-pros, maintenance, facilities, etc... ) who are to be affected by the LI? |

I really don't think any of us want to take this out on the teachers or para-pros. People certainly are frustrated and angry by the way this was handled by the BOE and Dr. Liepa, but we all know that has nothing to do with the teachers. The teachers are a huge part of what makes LPS so wonderful. My kids have had wonderful teachers thus far and I would never take my anger out on them. I don't think most other people would, either. |

I can not even believe that there are people out there who would think that parents would take the results of the vote on the LI out on the teachers. |

I agree...there is no reason to take this out on anyone who did not have any control over what the BOE was doing. I am just quite curious to know what the truth really is. |

I have heard just the opposite sentiment from parents at our school. Although worried about our children and the community, I have had many conversations that included concern about our teachers jobs. Many have said how awful it would be if this affected not only your children in LPS but your job too. Double ouch! Just as the teachers care about the students, most parents care very much what happens to our beloved teachers. |

The BOE has painted us "opposers" as being a bunch of fringe lunatics, preferring to believe that there is a silent majority that loves the Legacy Initiative. They even had the audacity to have a teacher speak at the last board meeting and infer that we were saying bad things about the teachers at Cooper and that we somehow do not appreciate the diversity at that school. The comments were in the Observer with no rebuttal, so anyone who has NOT followed along with all of this might believe we are a bunch of racist nut-cases. This is a textbook way to discredit your opposers right out of Alinsky's Rules for Radicals. |

I agree 100%. I love my kids teachers and find it hard to believe that parents would take it out on them. I will still help out in my kid's classroom's for the remainder of this year and you can bet I'll be there next year to keep my eye on things :ph43r: I will do this to help the kid's and teachers, NOT the LI. |

I have never once heard anyone blaming teachers for any of this mess, please understand this! Maybe some questions were worded in a manner that was misunderstood. No problem with the teachers themselves, but the union I am not sure about. This is an area I don't feel knowledgable enough to discuss, but I have heard conflicting views regarding the motives and power of the teachers union. |

Absolutely Not! The LI is going to impact the teachers as well as the students. Teachers who are moved to the 5/6 LARGE schools will be impacted the most. Not only will they have to deal with the transitions, adjustments, discipline issues--they are losing recess time (time they can use for additional planning or a break for themselves). My children have wonderful teachers currently and in the past! I think it takes a special person to be a teacher. Taking care of 25 children on a daily basis, keeping them in line, teaching, setting examples, encouraging...I myself would never opt to home school, because I do not have the patience. I would not do my children justice. I am thankful for the wonderful teachers and para-pros employed in Livonia!!! |

My child has had the most wonderful teachers since she has been in LPS. I help in the classroom and I am amazed at the job they do. They not only teach our children but serve as disciplinarians (sp?) too. I leave the classroomm after an hour and I am exhausted. You teachers are wonderful and many of you must be angels. I have never heard of a parent that blamed the teachers for anything. I have only heard praise. |
