Livonia Recall targets five on school board Parents opposed to a school reconfiguration plan are drafting recall petitions for the five Livonia Public Schools board members who voted to adopt it Dec. 5. The group, Citizens for Livonia's Future, will submit the wording to an attorney for review and expects to deliver it to the Wayne County Election Commission next month. The plan includes closing seven schools next school year. hehe....... the news keeps following it. They know that Livonia Residents are really P-offed........... http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...0333/1003/METRO I also heard this morning that WJR was talking about Livonia Schools.... did anyone here it? |

The more news that gets out the better. There are still people in Livonia who feel they are not going to be affected by this proposal because their elementary school is not closing. Therefore, they are not following the news. How do we reach these people? |

Rose, There are some folks who are really tough to reach, that's for sure. But, I really think most people are getting wind of this thing--and the feeling is that it is not good for LPS. In the last 3 weeks, almost every day there has been something on the radio, on TV, in the newspapers. I was at Sam's diner on 5/Farmington. It's a good little place. We were having breakfast after swim practice (my oldest swims at the Rec). I was approached by 3 people about the school issue, and overheard another man talking to a friend about it. That's 4 people in a little diner at breakfast time. There may have been even more conversations, which I was not aware of. This thing is getting pretty big. Anna Krome |

Rose, I was at a holiday function in Dearborn and they were talking about it!!! Started asking me questions. A family was there who was looking for a house in Livonia and now has changed their plans. They have 5 kids!!!!! It is definitely out there. We just have to get the current citizens informed. |

DETROIT THE YEAR IN REVIEW | MOMENTS: Tragedies, triumphs changed lives As a collection, the fights, fears, tragedies and victories reveal a busy, poignant and dramatic 2005. Here they are, the major headlines of 2005 and how the events will be a part of 2006. December 30, 2005 LIVONIA RESTRUCTURING • In 2005: The Livonia Public Schools board approved a money-saving proposal to close seven schools and change its grade configuration. Parents upset about the change are working to recall five of the school board members who OK'd the changes. • What's next in 2006: Adams, Hull, McKinley, Nankin Mills, Taylor, Tyler and Washington elementary schools will close in the fall and Cooper and Johnson elementary schools and Riley Middle School will house grades 5-6. And school board members Daniel Lessard, Lynda Scheel, Robert Freeman, Cynthia Markarian and Kevin Whitehead could find themselves ousted. |

I am finding the same, everywhere I go people talk about this. I was at the doctors, the nurse and my doctor both commented what a stupid plan this was. In line at Target buying Christmas presents, people in front and back of me people were talking about it. Grocery store, video store, Borders, Quiznos. Everywhere. If you mention that your from Livonia or something about LPS your hit with questions and opinions about this proposal. About 99% think this proposal is unbelievably stupid. Im always amazed that it is so widespread. Im not standing in line with hand picked people. And its not just me that feels this is wrong for our kids. This is why I feel we will have no problem getting enough signitures for a recall. |

Over the holiday, my brother in-law, a doctor from Northville, asked me about the "stupid" proposal and referred to our BOE as "rogue." On the other hand, he considers Northville's BOE to be rogue, also. |
