I found this website. Perhaps you can use it for ideas. Please those movies don't represent all of us teenagers. They only give Hollywood's interpretation. |

 Oh my too much. I needed that laugh. I got a bit fired up at first, wanted more on the charter schools. But the laugh was well worth it. Quite an interesting distraction though. Elisa and Cindi I would vote for you. Have a great holiday all!!! |

XYZ one of your first posts in this topic
Obviously you were one* (parent/child) benefitting from these golden opportunities. However, students who are in these programs are a select and very small group of kids. They were not forced into any of the programs. They chose freely, or their parents chose for them KNOWING, FULL WELL, WHERE THEY WOULD BE ATTENDING SCHOOL. I do believe you are a parent defending LPS and the benefits/programs available in the district. Those special programs - acat, macat, msc, capa - affect far fewer students than those (students) that will be negatively impacted with a 5/6 school. Remember you were free to choose! Many students or parents choose those "accomodations" just to avoid their "home school". Can you fathom that? |

Xyz..is exhausting!! All he/she can mention is the MACATand etc..... I am still waiting on the benefits to the program.. I also love the post where he said...its easier to strike down what we say instead of listing the benefits to the plan. I still think its a BOE member...trying to point out the positives.....and oh..im still waiting for them. Maybe they are truly scared that we would like to have a Charter School here. |

Even if it is a BOE member, I still say they have deep rooted problems from being picked on by the cool kids. (And still don't have any friends...any wonder?) |

I suspect xyz is Mr. Freeman's child.
I would love to run for BOE. Maybe that is in my future somewhere. I have learned so much through this process. We are moving to the Chicago area (job move) at the end of this school year. But I plan to stay connected. As I am researching new districts for my kids, I am certainly looking at them in ways I would have never done before the LI. Enrollment projections, school sizes, configurations, teaming and on and on. I hope that this group stays together, remains strong and united to advocate for the best educational practices for the children of LPS. There are many great minds (and hearts) in this group. |

Hall_alumni, first of all, if you "do believe" I am a parent, please read the rest of the "Start our own Charter School" thread. You obviously missed something. Second, your reply to my question leaves me confused. I am asking how can charter schools give special accommodations to those with individual needs? Somehow you connected ACAT, MACAT, and MSC with 5-6 schools. Perhaps it is simply a lack of sleep. (That's what I get for staying up till two last night.
)Grant, regarding your post, I am not a BOE member but a student in the LPS district. However, I do not know how I can prove this to you in a reasonable fashion while protecting my anonymity. Perhaps you could contact me through Skype or Google Talk and compare my voice to that of the board members. Send me a private message, IM, or email if you have any ideas. |

Just a couple of quick points. As far as your opinions xyz-321, you are entitled to them and we welcome any additional information (so far, I've seen none). Also remember that the majority of people here have been through transitions to many schools over the years, and actually remember what school and the teenage years were like. You'll have to forgive us if we don't accept your wisdom as gospel. Remember....some of these people have kids you go to school with. Most of the people here have children, jobs, own homes, drive vehicles they own, and have worked many years to achieve what we have. Unfortunately, your lack of life experience gives you a rather narrow point of view. What you have not really mentioned, and what bothers me the most here, is the misrepresentation of the people by elected officials. This is something that you and your generation should be very disturbed about. If your suggesting "we the people" just lay down and accept the Legacy Initiative "because they said so", then maybe you should have paid more attention to History and Government(assuming it was even offered to you yet), than to Computer Science. Life isn't black or white, or 1's and 0's. As far as the money issue you seem to think is so important, why not adopt one of the other two plans that saved the same or more money? They didn't include all the transitional problems, yet were not even considered for some reason. Hmmm.... You are obviously a very smart person, and it's very encouraging to see you get involved. Age and experience are what you lack at this point. Please, post all the wonderful and great things about the plan that I keep hearing the Board members all exited about. Perhaps you've figured out what they are...we have not. |

This is really sad news for us. Good luck with your move. I really and truly think you would have been wonderful on the BOE.
