Every situation IS unique. Which is why the constitution of the State of Michigan provides us with the recall option. I am convinced that both sides of this issue believe they have the best plan for our children. But it will be decided in a democtatic process in which each of us can cast our vote, and each of us will have the chance to change the hearts and minds of those who disagree with us. I am confidant that the majority agrees that the K-6 plan is the best plan for our kids. However, if you are correct, you should also be happy to see the recall effort proceed. After all, if the voters come out and support the board, you get what you want most. The issue behind us and a stamp of approval from the public. So please remember, we have a right to call for this recall. And exercising our right to a vote in a democractic society is never a bad thing. |

I think a k-8 charter school in Livonia would be a good option for parents. If such a school became very successful I imagine LPS would be forced to copy the format. I think the anti-LI group could pull off creating a charter school. |

I don't know if anyone else has posted this link, but I think this is pretty much a how to guide: http://www.michigan.gov/documents/PSAQA_54...r%20school' I think we would have to get a university to be the authorizer, since LPS will not be very receptive. Perhaps EMU: http://www.emich.edu/charter/flash/about/becoming.html |

Heritage Academies (Canton Charter) have a a sizable presence here in MI. as well as 4 other states. Their Canton school is authorized by CMU. Someone may want to explore the feasibility of them expanding to the Livonia area. It may be necessary to show them that there is a strong desire for educational options in the area. This is the organization that I am most familiar with but there are others. EMU, Grand Valley, Saginaw State and Bay Mills, just to name a few, all authorize charters. The Montessori that opened on Middlebelt last year is authorized by Bay Mills and the mangement company is Helicon Associates. Charters vary widely but most have both an authorizer (a college/university) and a management company. Although, there is a charter in Holly that has no management company, it was developed completely by parents. I feel comfortable with the Heritage program. Look back in the thread, I posted a study that Hillsdale did on Heritage. I also do not think that it would be terribly off base to suggest that Livonia would have similar success as the characteristics of the students populations in Canton and LPS are similar. http://www.heritageacademies.com/Brix?pageID=1 |
