I think when we get the petitions, we need to assign every family a block or 2 other then their own. It took about 3 hours on a Saturday afternoon to get 36 signatures on my block for the last petition. That was a lot of gabbing with neighbors. So this time around it should be much easier. And with this many people collecting signatures it shouldn't take that long. We just need to be sure no one is covering the same territory. Ideas??? |

If you are interested in helping with the recall, please email http://www.citizensforlivoniasfuture.com/ Please include your names, phone #, email addresses, what elementary school zone you live in, and if there are any specialities that you may want to share such as accounting, PR, secretarial, advertising, printing, etc. We will need a variety of help when the petitions arrive late January. We will be having at least one meeting prior to the petitions arriving to start more structured organization. |

At the meeting on the 14th, someone mentioned that it would be a good idea to have people outside of the elementary & middle schools seeking signatures. Also at certain strip malls or grocery stores. Does anyone know if we are able to do this? Is it legal? I'm all for assigning areas and gathering signatures but would also like to target areas where we can get the most 'bang for our buck'! |

I would think outside the rec center would be a great area. I don't know if it would be legal to do so. |

We have just begun to fight!

Just remember the criteria for being able to gather signatures on any petition. 1) It must be on Public Property - sidewalks, right of ways, etc... 2) If on Private Property there must be written authorization form the property owner or property manager 3) Livonia School board area election registered voters only Not much else to it - I'm all for gathering signatures at schools and Rec Center, etc... but we must be sure of the law regarding these locations...are they considered "public" or are they "city property". Remember that during elections the persons handing out flyers or talkling to you have to stay 100 feet away from polling locations - does this apply also if we are gathering signatures at a school? We need legal advice and rulings on this before we proceed |

The petitions won't be ready for a while. So everyone needs to take a break from this and enjoy the holidays. But on January 3, lets all come back ready and refreshed!. We definetely want to dot our i's and cross our t's. We don't want to give anyone any reason at all to toss out a big bunch of signatures. Merry Christmas! (And Happy Holidays). |

For the petitions presented at the Public Hearing, we gathered 32 in about an hour. My neighbor and I walked down her block, then mine. Two moms walking together at about 5:45 pm made folks feel a lot more at ease about opening their front doors--plus we hit some folks still walking into their homes from work. And most (amazingly) knew about the school plan. They wanted to sign. Some even had their own stories of fear, pain, frustration and anger about the drastic things this district is trying to do. I heard we could be on the sidewalk that borders the Rec Center. |

If anyone would like, start calling stores, churches, senior housing, etc. in your area to see if we can set up there. Please make a list of ALL yes and no responses so we don't ask twice! Have your lists ready for the recall petition kick off meeting in mid January!

Anna, maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but we had the same experience. At that rate, and with the amount of people collecting signatures ( which is WAAAY more than for that)...I don't think it will take very long. |

When we started gathering petitions the very first Monday after the bomb was dropped, 3 of us were at the Rec Center, we got quite a few, until an employee advised us we were not allowed without permission from the administrator, who when asked, would not allow it. But, until we got kicked out, we did get alot of signatures. |

We need lawn signs out .. maybe if they can see how many of us are serious about recalling them they will think about what they have done and what the consequences of not listening to the parents will have on their jobs. |

The bottom line is...we have had lawn signs, we have written hundreds of letters, we have spoke out at all the meetings. The plan was already in place, it did not matter what we said, what we researched, how we feel. The deal was done in October when it was presented to all the schools. They were being "politically correct" by holding the hearings and letting the public have their say. Rumor has it that some of the Board members quit reading the mail long time ago. Too many "yes men/women" on the BOE. I think it took great courage for Tom Bailey to speak out against the proposal. I wonder if he gets the cold shoulder from the rest of them?! |
