Well I had a funny feeling i'd be needing some of the experts advise from here. I not too long ago purchased a Expedition C hand unit to replace the Garmin E-Trex I used to have but someone else decided they wanted it more than me and took it. Anyhow, I purchased the MapCreate7 disc, card reader, and SD memory card as a "kit" from LEI and went about all the necessary things needed to do for the disc installation, card reader down load, etc. and began downloading GPS waypoints to the software on my laptop. Everything was running smoothly UNTIL I went to upload them to the SD card through the card reader. My computer recognizes the card reader and shows it as a separate drive on my computer but the software program will not. I've marked the area on the map with the boarders, checked to see if the file would fit on the card space (it does 1.49 GB on a 2 GB card) I tell it t transfer and a sequence of arrow heads show up on my display screen like its starting to do something and that's it. It won't show the download progression, nor will it prompt me to register the card. I sat up 1 night for 3 hours waiting for the next step to appear and decided that it was taking WAY too long to upload 1.5 GB of info to a card. I have never used the Lowrance formats before as I was used to the MapSource mapping system for my old Garmin which is non-compatible with Lowrance. I wrote to LEI seeing I purchased all this stuff directly from them and explained all of this to them, still waiting a reply after 2 weeks. These people are not very customer oriented. I'm going on a Elk hunt in Wyoming next month and am trying like the dickens to get all of these waypoints installed in my unit before hand. ANY help or suggestions that anyone could give to me that might solve this problem would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Thanks in advance,... |

It's been a while since I messed with mapping, but I remember encountering problems with really big areas, I believe the last time I did it I split the areas up into smaller chunks. You might try some small areas just to see if it works then. I can't get my Mapcreate 6.3 to run correctly with Vista, so I'm used to using a Windows 98SE computer, on really low end hardware to make maps though. I basically set it up and leave the room for 5-6 hours. It takes forever, but it will eventually do the task. As for your waypoints, I wouldn't use Mapcreate for that, it is a very poor management program. Use EasyGPS or some other program that is popular for Geocaching, all Geocaching oriented programs I know of are compatible with Lowrance .USR format and all do well with managing waypoint info.
