I'm not running Vista, so I can't speak to any compatibility with that.

With regard to MapCreate, there is a version 6.3, which was the first to include topo details for North America, except Alaska. Version 7 includes additional topo for Alaska as well as enhanced lake depth details, and probably some other detail that I can't remember or am not aware of.

If the software that you are looking at for $50 is 6.2 or lower, then no topo. It still does have streets and POIs, I'm pretty sure. Also if it's less than 6.2, it's probably a few years old and might be more outdated than recent maps.

So, if you want to use it a lot off-road, you probably want at least 6.3.

I have only made one attempt to install MapCreate 6.3 to my Vista computer, and it didn't go so well. It may work, but I haven't gotten around to figuring out how just yet, maybe someone else can verify Vista compatibility.

$50 is a fairly decent price. Is it version 6.3 or 6.2? 6.3 has Topo mapping, while 6.2 does not. At any rate that would probably be the cheapest you can find any mapping package that will work with your unit.
