Does anyone have the workaround for MapCreate that they're willing to share? That is, the workaround so that you don't have to put in one of the CDs every time you want to use the program. It annoys me to have to put in a CD to use the program, and I often don't use it because of this extra step. I'm afraid I'll break one of them, and I have young kids that use the PC. I have to keep the CDs close to the PC and I'm afraid one of them will break them if I don't. I'd like to just put them up once and for all. I'm a legitimate MapCreate 6.3 owner. I bought the Plus package with my receiver and have a fully-licensed version of the software. I run it on only one PC. Heck, I don't even use any SD card readers other than the proprietary one from LEI. I'm in full compliance with the licensing regulations and would just like to use the program whenever I want without worries of breaking my CDs. |

I have emailed you a set of instructions I got from another member on a different forum. I've done the procedure on several of my computers and it works great. It does require that you install a couple of pieces of software so do so at your own risk. I haven't found any conflicts or issues with it so far. Basically it creates a virutual CD drive that runs all the time with an image of the Map Create software. At first I thought, oh what's the big deal if I need to put a CD in when I want to run the software. It became apparent pretty quickly just what a pain that can really be. I agree, I have no intentions of doing anything other than using the software for my own use. I know the software companies need to protect their stuff but there's got to be a better way than forcing users to put in a CD. Hope it works for you. ntw |

S.C.S., I am using the procedure that ntw sent you. Works great. I also have no desire to trash my original CD. I travel w/ my laptop a lot, and make small map areas for each city I visit, so lots of MapCreate running. This may or may not be a grey area (how's that for a vague, grey answer ), but I can articulate to Lowrance my reasoning and the safeguards I have in place to ensure the software is not used against the licensing agreement. That makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside :ph43r: Z |

Thank-you so much ntw. I got the PM. Although I'm excited to try it out, my day started very early this morning with soccer games for the youngsters and is ending now after a great geocaching event that we attended. Too pooped to try now, but I'm looking forward to testing it out tomorrow. I've been experiencing exactly what you say. It is a bigger pain than it seemed it would be when I made the purchase. If I was in Zs shoes, I think I'd be using the basemap alot while on the road (which isn't why I bought this unit!). As it stands now, I just cut out a detail map that is way bigger than the territory I plan to cover and copy that over. Anyhow, thanks again guys. I'll let you know how it goes when I return to full functioning tomorrow. |

Did it this morning and it works perfectly. Thanks again. I'm putting my originals up for good, and will use the software only in accordance with its licensing requirements. |

I would like a copy of this procedure to if you don't mind. I have MC on my Laptop, and I don't like packing my CD's around with me for fear I'll loose one. |

I'd like your workaround too, zman. I fancy myself quite the computer geek and I am jealous that I never found a way to pull this off. The program is great, I love the maps, but I travel all over the US. I'd like to add maps on the road without lugging the CD. I've lost one CD (just music) and ruined one (my favorite airplane game) while traveling. While I've just started, I plan to try to catch a cache in each area where I travel. Thanks PS |

Hi Zman & NTW, I would really appreciate the opportunity to put a way my Cd's also. I am registered and licensed having purchased the Expedition C unit that comes with the Map Create software. I am just finishing up this years Elk Season here in Washington and was pretty apprehensive carrying a CD around with me to access the Map Create program back at camp. I truly like the Expedition C and as others have stated I am all for Software Copyright protection, having been a wildlife photographer and not wanting my work infringed on - - - but there just has to be a better way than what Lowrance came up with, thanks for any help you can give me, Fletch |

Hey , I think we all are needing this problem fixed. If you don't mind, please email the directions to me too. I have tried to do it on my own and it never seems to work. So the answer must be in the details. |
