Hi everyone, Just thought I would say hello and thank you all for a very informative site also explain quickly why I am here. I am in the process of looking for an RV between 30 and 33' for fulltiming. I intend to spend 6 or so months in the UK working and the remainder travelling through France and Belgium carp fishing for the next few years having been a keen fisherman for over 40 years. I do have several questions but am not about to jump in feet first and regret later so thought I would spend the next few months learning about these fantastic homes. It has come to my notice that RV's vary hugely in price from dealer to dealer. Is there anywhere I can go to establish what is a fair asking price? Does anyone know which are good and bad dealers? if answering this is a problem I would really appreciate a PM as I have no wish to fall at the first fence so to speak. Are certain manufacturers/ engines to be avoided? I have noticed both very nice newer RV's but also some very very nice 1998-2000 models which have caught my eye. Does age/millage have a huge effect on RV's? My budget is up to 50k but I dont have to spend it all. I have read from several members they prefer older models, can anyone give ages that are best in their opinion? Thanks in advance for any advice you may be able to offer to a complete but very excited novice

Hi Glenn, its a buyers market at the moment and your position is made stronger because you have nothing to part exchange. Most of the dealers that are still around are OK but you will pay more, much more. You will get a much better deal if you buy privately. pre99 RVs seem to be better built than the newer models, the decor will be a bit "Laura Ashley" but you can tidy them up. As for mileage, you cannot use it to judge an RV's likely condition. It might have been sat in a field for years doing no miles. I would rather buy a 10 year old RV with 50k on the clock than a 10 year old RV with 2k on it! Look out (and smell) for damp, if it smells of damp, walk away no matter what the deal. Oh, and whatever you do, if you want to tour, stay 30ft or under and you will have the best choice of sites, any bigger and its a pain, doable but painful, don't let anyone convince you otherwise, they'd be lying

Hi glenn240861. A BIG Welcome to RV Fulltiming. JimJam has said everything that needs to be said. Dealers have a mark up of around 35%. Buy privately and the difference will allow you to make any alteration, additions or repairs you want and still have 2 or 3 years FREE running costs. IMH&HO. Happy RV'ing.
