Hi all.... Just an update... We changed our minds about moving to Scotland and moved into a rented house in Colchester in September.. This was a lot more difficult than it sounds, with no family or roots here we didn't qualify for a council house and if we had declared ourselves homeless we could have been put in to a shared accommodation or a B and B .. but as we had been in Colchester for over six months the council were obliged to offer us a private rent which is very nice and as we now live here officially we can apply for a council property, that could several years away as we are not a high priority. Chaz is settling in great at her new school, has joined the Brownies and doing really well, while traveling and staying on sites she was missing out on socialising with kids her own age so now she will learn to swear like an Eastern European.. Christmas is looming and we are really looking forward to it, the last one we spent in a house was in Basildon in 2005, 2006 was in Spain, 2007 working at the pub in Kent and last year at the CL .. Chaz is sooo excited as we have a full size tree and a chimney for Santa to come down.. Jan is having a ball, after three years of being told.. NO .. we have no space .. she is now collecting clutter faster than you can say Charity shop.. Yesterday we were doing the rounds and I spotted a gorgeous tea set, like something your great aunts would have in a display cabinet, Jan turned up her nose, nah, it's a bit old fashioned. Anyway, I asked the lady the price and she said you can have it for £3.50 .. Bargain I thought, and bought it. Later in the evening I went on Google to try and find it's age.. it's dated around 1952 ..and it's valued at £250 !!!! well, Jan nearly collapsed.. I only bought it because I liked it.. but I always had a nose for a good bargain.. she then says.. well, if it's soo valuable we need a display cabinet .. bit of an own goal really .. I've also bought a 1937 Singer treadle sewing machine.. made in Scotland, at Clydebank.. lovely bit of engineering and in perfect nick.. £20.. That's about it really, I'm looking forward to growing tomatoes, cutting the grass and having a shed to potter about in.. and becoming an old codger .. lol .. odd the things you miss while travelling, like not having a garden, shed, or junk mail.... and it's great having a land line and high speed broadband .. Wishing everyone a happy Christmas, safe travels.. Jim, Jan and Chaz Edited by ScotJimland, Dec 11 2009, 09:44 AM.
