End of a dream .. ?; giving up full timing.

End of a dream ? Well yes I suppose it is.. but not the end of travelling... nor the end of dreaming !

Jan and I have decided to give up full timing.. there are many reasons, some are practical and some are family related but mostly we just don't want to do it any more.

We are planning to move back to Scotland, eventually sell George and buy a smaller motorhome, perhaps a panel van conversion.. We are not giving up travelling, we love that too much, but with a panel van we will hopefully be able to explore many more far flung regions and countries.. but that is all in the future..

RVFulltiming will always be here as I will, to help and give advice for those who are contemplating the life style .. so it's not an end of our travelling and long trips .. just a change of plans.

Fulltiming is not for everyone, but until you try you will never find out, I don't consider it a failure or wish we hadn't tried it.. far from it, we have had a fabulous time, but when you stop enjoying it or feel it's not for you it's time to think again..

Good luck to all, we will keep you informed of our progress.

Jim and Jan

Hi Jim, dreams are what keeps us alive, but sometimes the reality is a bit of a let down, but if you don't do it you will never know. So its on to the next dream. :))

But Scotland!! its cold there, and full of Scottish people. :))

I have had a set of plans for a 41' steel multichine yacht for all of 35 years, the dream was to build it and sail around the world, I keep saying one day. :D

Hi Jim, Susan said she was willing, maybe beacuse she thought I would never do it. :)) Here's a simlar boat from the same designer: http://www.bruceroberts.com/public/HTML/descriptions/Roberts410_DESCRIPTION.htm

I also looked a ferrocement boats, they used to make them at Brightlingsea just down the road from you, (and may still do) the hulls ring like a bell when you tap them. Most of the designs in those days seemed to come from Australia/New Zealand like these from Hartley: http://www.ferrocement.org/galleryh.html

:'( Sad we never got to meet you on the road Jim (and of course family). Although we are Full-Timers, we park the Newmar on a campsite in Spain and travel around in the Kontiki and for use as a home in the UK. We sure MISS being in the Newmar Full-time. But we may still do that yet. Now bought a 2006 Kia Picanto with Towtal 'A' frame and Brake buddy for Sandy. WE still dream of going back to the USA and touring there some more.
As the previous have mentioned. What is life without a DREAM????
Good luck in your move to bonny Scotland. ;)
Been there and done that, but never stop learning. We are not dreaming. We are doing it for real.

but mostly we just don't want to do it any more.

which is a plenty good enough reason to try something else :))
Bottom line?
For the rest of your lives, you can say "been there, done it, got the T shirt" :))
Might happen to me one day, I just dont know. What I DO know is that the past 10 years "out" has been an incredible experience, full of trials, tribulations, fun, laughter, sights, new friends and new experiences.
When the times right to try something else, I'm SURE, we'll just know........just like you do now.
All the best Jim, to you and your family. Although we've never met, it's been a genuine pleasure "talking" with you on the various Forums and I thankyou VERY much for the help and advise you've freely offered.
Keep in touch, let us all know what you're up to and what ever it is ENJOY IT!!!!!!! You're only down here once! :D

All the best mate

Paul & ffiona.

Sorry to read your news Jim, you have had some amazing adventures on your travels in George and I am sure will hang on to the memories and will miss him when he goes - its not something we would have had the guts to do and for that I admire you!

Not much else I can say really only to wish you, Jan & Chaz all the luck in the world and to thank you for your support over the past few years.

Hi Lynda

don't be sorry .. it's not for ever , our full timing may be on hold for a few years but I've no doubt we will do it again..

We've leaned a lot in the past three years, met some great people, travelled to places we only dreamt of and are a lot wiser .. certainly no regrets and had amazing support from all the people we have met.. both on forums and in the flesh.

Next time we will do it differently .. different van, different countries, different expectations.. but that is in the future, and if we don't fullfill that dream we have our memories .. :))

Thanks for your support too, without which lots of stuff would have been much harder to source .. and more expensive.

Good luck for the future
