RV Suitable Sites

Posted by ScotJimland (Administrator) at Feb 21 2010, 04:51 PM. One comment

Just in case anyone else has missed our Google map of RV suitable sites.. here is the link ..
RV Suitable sites, aires and CLs

Also on Google Earth

It has been complied by myself and Olley , all the sites have been used by RV owners so you can be certain, unless otherwise stated, that they are suitable for a big rig, a few may have length limitations, but that is stated clearly on the listing, so check before using.

You can also download a POI set for TomTom

If you have been to a site and it's not listed please add to this thread. All that is needed is the basic details, either an address or GPS .. a couple of pictures are also useful, Olley or I will then add to the Google map..

In case any are thinking that French Aires are not suitable.. here is a pic of a quiet one, just to get you in the mood .. it's FREE and there are plenty of others.. what are you waiting for !

it's listed as St Dizant du Gua

Motorhome owners required for starring security role

Posted by ScotJimland (Administrator) at Dec 8 2009, 10:57 PM. 0 comments

I have no connection with this company nor have any other information.

Octavian Security is looking to recruit personnel with a difference – keen motorhome owners who fancy pitching up on outside broadcast and film sets and looking after the sites (and sometimes the celebrities!)

Octavian, one of the country’s foremost security providers to the outside broadcast industry, says it needs people to man sites nationwide, to join the many who have already forged part time roles in security.

Tony Mellor, commercial director of Octavian, said: “This is a superb opportunity and will offer something a bit different to the usual pitches at the seaside or country parks.

“Full training will be given, including health and safety, site egress and access procedures, and security processes, but the main task will be to ensure that sites are secure – with the support of Octavian’s key personnel, of course.

“It will be a challenging but exciting role. Our staff have the opportunity to watch sporting events take place, see TV programmes and films being made, plus perhaps even meet a few stars, whilst ensuring that no unwanted intruders enter restricted areas.”

4x4 Sportsmobile for off road adventure

Many recreational vehicles are thought of as pure highway cruisers fit only to drive into a paved, developed campground. That's an accurate assessment, but the Sportsmobile company breaks the mold with 4WD Class B (van conversion) motorhomes.

Sportsmobile developed its own 4WD conversion for the Ford E350 vans on which the motorhome is based. The Ford has a power train that can tackle any trail the conversion van owner wishes to take on.

Fake gel coat

I don't think I would get caught out with this scam... ^o)

Moorpark police are warning campers to be on the lookout for scammers who offer to put a new “gel coat” on trailers and other recreational vehicles made of fiberglass.

The scammers will typically look for a vehicle where the gel coat is aged and faded, police said.

They will offer unsuspecting owners a new gel coat, saying the vehicle will look “like new” again.

The cost ranges from $50 for a front grill to $1,000 for an entire motor home, police said.

Eco friendly Hybred RV , concept

If this can be charged up with solar power .. that would be a step forward B)

A concept built by Winnebago and Freightliner. The RV is powered by a diesel engine and an electric motor

Brad Herzog says his new ride gets better gas mileage than the normal RV, and it's also nice to know he's helping the environment a little.

"About 20 percent owners of RV owners install solar panels on their RVs, and I guarantee 20 percent of homeowners don't do that. So RV owners are very environmentally conscious. That's why I think this is a good idea, it's the next generation of innovation in the green market, in the green wave that's coursing through America," says Herzog.

World on offer to van fans

MOTORHOME, recreational vehicle and campervan owners can now enjoy the same holiday benefits as people who exchange their homes.
A new website has launched following the approach of a holiday exchange scheme, where owners exchange their houses – and more recently boats – to have the convenience of a well-equipped home in another part of the world at virtually nil cost.

The service was started by Chris Farrow, a motorhome owner from Hexham in England, after he swapped motorhomes with friends who lived in France.

"Owners can have the reassurance that they will exchange with like-minded people who care about their motorhomes and RVs," Farrow said. "We have around 75 members on the website from all over Australia and a total of 500 members from all around the world.

"There has been plenty of exchanges to and from Australia which seems to be very popular."

HOUSTON -- At the Wal-Mart Super Center on Dunvale and Westheimer, there are always low prices, but rent has been apparently free for a man who parked his recreational vehicle in the store's lot.

The owner of the RV is 46-year-old David Inman Jones. Even he has trouble deciding how long he's been living in the Wal-Mart lot. His answer varies from three months to three years.

VENICE BEACH – Sitting in her battered Chevy van, applying eye shadow in three shades, brushing her red-dyed hair and sipping a 40-ouncer, Sunshine Blue tells of days as a porn actress, FBI agent, hairdresser to Hollywood stars and music conductor who jammed with Santana.

The one verifiable truth is that Sunshine, who says her real name is Serena Elizabeth Peters, is a homeless woman who admits to battling the bottle. She has resided on the streets for three years in a cramped van with a bumper sticker: "Say your prayers before your prayers are said for you."

The Brit View, RVing in the USA

We’re Keith and Marie, our home is in England (UK/GB). I'm 61, Marie is 58.

We started our trip in July 2004. We still enjoy the RV life-style and are now parked up for winter 2008/2009 after a crummy summer in the UK! Further travelling will probably take place in 2009 if plans work out....

We own a 1 Ton, long-box Chevvy Silverado dually with a Duramax turbo-diesel engine / Allison auto-transmission power train. This tows our home, a 36 foot (11.5 metre internally) fifth wheel trailer with three slides. The trailer is rated at 14,000 lbs (6300Kg) gross vehicle weight. (On the road it weighs approximately 13,000lbs). Both were bought in Houston, Texas.
