Meatball Party
Air date: July 30th, 2013
While trying to entice Raven into joining a meatball party, Cyborg fires a half-meat, half-robot mystery meatball into her mouth, cracking her tooth and releasing the demon octopus that lives in her mouth.

Meatball Party Discussion Post
"Eat eat, eat the meatball!" I swear I will have this stuck in my head for days to come. Discuss tonight's episode and ponder the question of why Raven has a demon octopus in her teeth to begin with.

Random observations:

At least, Raven takes off the hood extensively in this episode. And guess her comic book look is sticking, after all -- I still wasn't completely sure if it would take, after seeing Laundry Day -- oh, well, bye-bye, purple hair. I'll certainly miss you.

Although, the Meatball Party title is rather misleading, as the real issue is Raven's mouth and the dentist, isn't it? Oh, well.

And Raven ate Robin.... that sounds dirty, doesn't it? :P

And Cyborg in a fez. Thank you, animators. My life is complete.

At least the highlight on her hair is often a shade of purple and not white.

And so sad.. this was almost a good, albiet random as s***, episode. And then Cyborg went and ruined it.

And I am disappointed. There has not been nearly enough waffle love in this show yet.

Cyborg is starting to become just as annoying as Robin.

Raven had a few cute moments here and there, but I'm disappointed that it was another case of something really s***ty happening to her. Can't we focus on something that she's passionate about? Is she passionate about anything besides her pegasuses and reading?

That's why I'm mildly excited about the Terra episode. It looks like Raven will actually go out and do something.

Well, Robin and Beast Boy shouldn't have all the fun.[/sarcasm]

I was annoyed how the episode did establish a moral (just because you like something doesn't mean you impose such on your friend, who may not care for X or Y), and then completely tanked it at the last second. It's clear the show really wants to skew older, yet can't seem to do it in a way that can balance the younger fanbase, which I think do need the morals, and the older fanbase. Or they really hate aesops or since the aesops are likely a mandate for being a kid's show, then they really want to tank said aesops. Sighs.

As for Raven and her hobbies, I think the first season tried that (see "Sisters"), yet dropped that for her snark knight shtick later on (or so I noticed). We'll see.

On to more important matters..., as Nev rightfully suggested, why is there no waffle love in this series? You'd think that would have been a given, as that became a unique meme in the 2003 series. Oh, well.

I will say, with the exception of the general overdose on weirdness, the lack of waffles, and the moral-fail in the episode... I didn't mind it. I expected it to be much much worse. That's progress isn't it?

I can't argue with that, actually, as I didn't mind the episode (once you ignore those issues). In the past week, I'm trying to finally watch Adventure Time and Regular Show, since everyone compares GO's humor to it, and I can start to see the similarities. Anymore, Cartoon Network seems to run on this kind of humor, and I'm not sure why. Which is interesting, as 10 years ago, they had more straightforward action/adventure fare, save for the occasional light-hearted fare. Oh, well, better get used to it.

I miss the days when animated humor didn't mean topping yourself in utter absurdity, but here we are.

Although, I do question the logic of using meat to seal up a tooth. Yeah, the premise is insane -- and not unlike Parasite, but the stakes were different -- but I got to wonder, "Raven is going to have a real bad cavity later on."

Cyborg tried his hardest to ruin the episode completely, but I didn't hate it.

But the show is just soulless beyond belief. It shouldn't attempt a single aesop at all because I'm never going to buy it. Robin and Cyborg are moronic sociopaths. Starfire is off in her own little world. Raven and Beast Boy seem the most "real" to me, but Raven doesn't like anyone and Beast Boy primarily interacts with dumb and dumber.

Watch Employee of the Month. It's one of the goofiest episodes of the first series, but just watch the scene with Beast Boy serving burgers to the others. They actually talk like normal human beings.

As a side note, what was up with the scene where Raven drew pictures for Cyborg in order to communicate with him? Was there a reason why she couldn't just write down actual words?

I'd like to know how the VAs feel about each episode. They sound like a blast to do, but at the same time, I wonder how they feel about the writing. Are they all just happy to be working on TT agaoin that they aren't really thinking about the writing, or what?
