I know the moral is supposed to be "super powers come at a price," but the execution of which, I'm not sure what they're going for. Superman!Robin -- judging from the Superman curl he had -- solved all the problems, so because of that, the Titans had no need to exist. (Makes sense, somewhat, even if the GO!Titans were all "screw you guys, I'm outta here.") So, he lived out a normal lower-middle class life until he realized how mundane or boring it would be. And then, on his deathbed, he figures it out and the Titans are just waiting to rub it in, which is a chief issue of his in this series, anyway? Okay, then, Adam Stein. No wonder GO!Robin is so paranoid of the other Titans. Gorilla proved it well, but this episode proved how they really are this generation's Super Dickery. Meanwhile, feel free to speculate with the last shot with Raven and whether she might have killed Robin (or caused him to flatline). On the plus side, nice to see the H.I.V.E. Five again (with vehicle transportation). Would have liked to see their voice actors in action, but whatever. Although, with the Robin/Mammoth fight, I'm surprised Mammoth didn't attempt another wedgie, as he did in "Mother Mae-Eye." Oh, well, next time. And, yes, the actual bird with the grappling hook was adorable. |

I didn't catch the episode today, but apparently I didn't miss much? It's sad that the show can't even live up to my meager prediction that it would be consistently mediocre. Now all of a sudden episodes that reach the stratospheric heights of "okay" are in the minority.

I dunno, as it finally addressed Robin doing something about acquiring powers, which he has bemoaned since day one. If only for that and the HIVE Five cameo, I'd watch if I were you. However, it doesn't help that the episode is all over the place (Robin pulling a Brundle-Fly, Raven granting him powers to teach him a lesson, and then it becomes a time-skip, "see Robin get an office job and watch him age and get bored with existence"). Again, I can live with that, except for the Titans' Super Dickery, but that's now a given for this series. I can live with Silver Age Super Dickery, as it's pretty funny (Brave and the Bold did an epic spotlight on the subject in Season 3). This, on the other hand, I'm not quite ready to stop watching, but I'm getting close. |

This worries me in a way. When the admins give up on the show, this board is toast... The trailer I rather liked, but looks like the episode doesn't live up to the quality of the trailer. |

I actually didn't mind it. While it wasn't as cute as some of the others that I have actually liked, and it didn't have any kind of heart really, it wasn't as bad to me as is apparently was to Moth. Yes, there was dickery, but it wasn't as superpowered as Robin was. Actually, the dickery was less than it usually is and felt almost justified. If this were the old series, then there would be more heart with it, but because it isn't, things fell flat. "Super powers are a curse" Totally something they might honestly believe, but because Go!Robin is more stubborn than a bull, it's obvious that he wouldn't get it. They seemed rather frustrated that he didn't see them as a curse like they did. All they want is to be normal like him, but that wasn't good enough for him. Them sitting on the curb eating hot dogs can be perceived as dickery, but really, if he would just take some f**king help and not have to do everything on his own... Robin would've worked together with the team, even more so after Masks, but Go!Robin must not have started chasing Slade yet or something, because he has no concept of true teamwork. Which really makes no sense having come from the shadow of the Bat. The Titans quitting was abrupt, but the show is also about 12 minutes long. If they wanted to fit in the whole plot, things have to be so. What was really unneeded, was the chicken dance, which took up what, a good 20seconds? It felt reminicent of Regular Show, and made me chuckle for being so rediculous, but was really unneeded and pointless and the very type of thing that makes this show such a joke. And not in the "Oh so funny" type of way but the "Seriously?" type of way. I posted a rant about the message the show sends on one of the posts on their official facebook page. I want to like the show, I really do, but it's for such young people and the messages it sends are horrible. I fear for the next generation. But, this episode wasn't as cute as I hoped it would be, but it wasn't an utter disappointment either. I really blame the writers. They have these good ideas, they really do, but execution is not being handled properly. |

(Huh. I'm on really early, today.) Fair enough point, as GO!Robin wouldn't have taken the hint easily (and then we'd have no episode). It's still a mixed message, as right after the Titans went home after they beat the HIVE, they were basically saying "man, my powers are awesome." (While Robin pathetically crawling on the floor, being exhausted fighting Mammoth.) And then, the rest of the episode is basically, "no, Robin, you don't want these powers." So, which is it? At least, when Raven said on that, she was trying to be sincere, since her powers actually are a curse. Or if you want to fix a blame ratio, we'll go with Robin/60, the others/40. When you're doing such dangerous gene-swapping, you have to take the risks (and Raven's that powerful, she just undid his mutation?) And it's one of those ideas that can't quite be confined to 11 minutes, as you implied with the chicken dance (which I didn't care for, either). Or, skip the Brundle-Fly sequence completely, as that would have added more time to flesh out "Robin gets bored being ultra-powerful." But then, we would have lost that awesome bird, so. I don't want to be Debbie Downer, as I rather liked the premise. I was fine until the ending and the "gotcha" moment. "We ignored you for 40 years, just to teach you a lesson." Frankly, I was almost sold with Robin's office gig, and have wished they did a full episode where Robin got an office job and filed TPS reports. ;) By itself, the episode was alright. I guess after watching enough of these, I'm getting a tad wary, which is why I posted that, last night. I got rubbed the wrong way, and hopefully, when I re-view it later in the week, I change my mind. |

This episode was mostly whatever. It played on a screen and ended. I really love the powers vs. no powers debate, so much so that I wish that the old show had tackled it. Of course, this being Teen Titans Go, they handle it in the lamest way possible. Obviously, I'm not thrilled with Raven saying that her powers are mostly a curse. Raven Prime would never have said that. "Who wants to be your friend when you're the spawn of an intergalactic demon?" Raven, that has nothing to with your actual powers. I don't even know what to say towards Robin's chicken dance. "You almost made me smile." SHE SMILES ALL THE TIME IN THIS SHOW "Robin has put us all out of a job, so we're just going to stop being friends with Robin, and let's just move out of this huge awesome tower as well." Dur. Then we conclude with what is possibly the dumbest ending in the history of anything. |

(Stupid site ate my reply. Gah.) Indeed, as the "powers vs. no powers" debate can be a key one within the Titan franchise. More serious Titan media play up and make a serious effort of Robin (Grayson, Drake) being the most formidable, specifically because he doesn't have powers (and doesn't suffer the issues that go with them). To wax about the Judas Contract, as Slade enacted his endgame and captured the Titans for the H.I.V.E., he saved Dick Grayson for last, thinking it was easy prey. (At least, I think that was his motivation, as I don't have the issue handy, at the moment, to double check.) It was anything but, as Dick successfully evaded Slade, the only Titan to do so (and Slade actually respected him for it). In GO's case, it's more "exaggerating each Titan," thus the creators obviously played up on Robin's lack of powers for his (and his self-appointed leader status), even though, in every other Titan media, he wouldn't care. Instead of his non-powers (and his attitude toward the issue) giving him a unique non-conformist status, GO Robin is, instead, "I want to be like the others." Which actually is understandable in an outsider way, except, as my co-Admin said, he is "more stubborn than a bull," so it's somewhat hard to care. And, yes, she does smile a lot. Which I'm not complaining about, though, what elicits a smile from her is discussion fodder for another time. |
