From TG.Net. Feb 9th: Unfortunate news: The "Teen Titans Go!" comic series will be ending with issue #55, according to a recent letter sent out by DC Comics to monthly subscribers of the title. Click here for more details about the letter (thanks to zenz3n & TGN forumer Highlander for the heads up). Issue #55 will reach stores in late May 2008, and after that...TTG will appear to be no more. Any plans to renew TTG with a quarterly format (as a possibility suggested by TTG writer J. Torres) were not detailed, and subscribers with issues left in their order were informed the slack would be automatically fulfilled with "Tiny Titans" issues instead (unless otherwise requested). So despite DC's recent backing of TTG (new larger and nicer collection format, response to TTG fan mobs, etc.), it seems TTG may be getting cut with no strings attached. Although details behind the decision are currently unknown, we ask Titans fans to once again come together to urge DC Comics to rethink this and continue "Teen Titans Go!". Back when DC was going to first cancel TTG, fan efforts had succeeded in extending the series up to and even past the big issue #50 mark, and raised DC's awareness of TTG's huge fanbase. This isn't a hopeless fight; DC listened to the fans and went into action before, so let's have them listen again! The letter: http://forums.titansgo.net/viewtopic.php?p=388327#388327 Yesterday (an update): Following up our last update about the latest cancellation threat for "Teen Titans Go!", series writer J. Torres responds to say that supporting TTG by picking up its remaining issues and collected books is the best course of action. Continuing to write letters of support for TTG to DC Comics is highly recommended as well. Finally, DC will continue to put out collected books for "Teen Titans Go!", so those worried about not finding the issues after their print runs dry up will have some relief. J also states that there is a chance of some kind of follow-up for "Teen Titans Go!" if the demand is there, so there's definitely still hope. One more interesting thing: remember back in early October when DC decided to give TTG an extension due to fan demands (aka. success!)? It was originally decided the extension would only last up to issue #54, the issue with Wonder Girl II's debut. After that, there was a chance for a different format and schedule. Now we have up to issue #55, but no word of TTG's future. Seems DC is indecisive about TTG again, so the message fans can give them may make it clear: Keep "Teen Titans Go!" alive! (in related news, JLU subscribers got a cancel notice too: in a similar fate, their notice stated issue slack would be filled with Johnny DC's new "Super Friends" title) It never ends, does it? At least, there is hope (sorta). |

TG.net updated with some new info. Here is something on the issue itself. Here it is, the final issue of "Teen Titans Go!" as we know it. An important thing about the issue's cover that fans may've noticed is that it directly refers to the cover of TTG's very first issue. On TTG #1's cover, the main five Titans were pulling down posters for the animated series. Here on TTG #55's cover, they're at a similar street corner in similar poses, putting up "Robin wants you!" posters. It serves the final issue's story well, which notes that while the team has expanded across the globe, the main five Titans are coming back for one last round against the HIVE. And J. Torres' musings on the finale. With "Teen Titans Go!" nearing the end of its 55 issue run, series writer J. Torres popped by our site forum to give some insight on TTG's finale, issue #55: J. Torres: "I can't remember exactly when I was told #55 would be the last issue, but it wasn't that long ago... I do remember coming up with both the cover idea and plot in one afternoon... and that said, since it was a bit of a "rush job," when it came time to script the story, I ended up changing a lot. Biggest change is that the Hive 5 are not the main villains. I thought of them as the villains for the same "full circle" reason as the first issue cover homage, but I decided instead on a different villain in the end. There are also quite a number of cameos in the issue since it's the last." So, there you go. And Cloaked, DC's idiocy is only the tip of the iceberg. |
