What do you think about the village? I thought it was awesome. It made you think. I had to watch it twice to understand everything. |

The M. Night Shymalan work? I've heard of the premise, but never seen it. sounds kinda stupid to me. "It likes red, and it eats... Make the red goes away!" |

For those who don't know about the movie (don't worry, I won't spoil it), The film opens on the funeral of a child in a small village. The death date on the tombstone establishes the date as 1897. As the story progresses it is revealed that the villagers live in fear of nameless creatures in the woods that surround the village. They have built a barrier of oil lanterns and look-out towers that are constantly manned to keep watch for Those We Don't Speak Of. It is explained that the villagers have a long-standing truce with Those We Don't Speak Of; the villagers don't go into their woods, and the creatures don’t enter their village. Even so, dead, skinned bodies of small animals are starting to appear around the village. Greatly affected by the death of a child in the village, Lucius Hunt (Joaquin Phoenix) asks the Elders (the village's governing leaders) for permission to pass through the woods to get medical supplies from the "towns" beyond. All this from Wikipedia. In addition, the movie is heavily spoofed by Scary Movie 4 , so if you've seen that you should have a general understanding of The Village. I haven't seen it myself, but it does display good ideas, although the execution isn't perfect. |

I've never actually seen the movie but I've seen the trailer numerous times. Everytime I saw it though, I was still confused. XD  From what The Brain posted, it does sound a little interesting to me, but still not enough for me to go watch the movie. Hehe |

I've heard about part of it, but it might be a spoiler. I have a question about that part though. |

Since this is a thread that entails, "What did you think about it?" I'm going to go ahead and say what I think about certain parts, spoilers or not. So there will be spoilers in this if you haven't seen it. I voted good. On the premise that the man who created the village and came up with that idea was only hoping for a better world. A simple life where violence was not tolerated and everyone loved each other. But the love story behind everything was weak and lacked the proper acting. Don't get me wrong, Joequin Phoenix is an amazing actor, but the supporting roles were terrible. I just went to see it because Sigourney Weaver was in it and I thought I'd get some acting like I saw in the Alien series. But alas, there was none. The plot was good and it caught you off guard at sometimes, not to mention the freaking scary monsters that would pop up now and then. Overall.....7/10. Good. |

Same here. But is it a horror movie? Because I don't watch any horror movies at all. |

Yep. The noseums like red. and they eat. And they resemble failed abortions. "It STILL lived!" ...either that, or they look like emo children. We all know how frightening emo children are. Yeesh, I miss the days of the exorcist. |

Yes, it is under the catagory of horror, but also under suspense, since that's what most of the movie is about and/or deals with. There is a game that the boys of the village play where they stand on a tree trunk and look away from the edge of the woods and see how long they can stay there before getting too scared. It freaks you out a couple of times. And M. Night Shyamalan is a strange director. I heard he appears once in all of his movies or something. And the girl who plays Ivy, the blind daughter of the villiage leader, Edward Walker, is also in Lady in the Water which Shyamalan directed also. Strange. |

Maybe he's like Kevin Smith as in re-using his actors in later movies. Or maybe he wanted to bail her out with a freebie or something. |
