Titansgo.net dropped this today.

Wil Wheaton (voice of Aqualad) made a podcast focusing on various issues, most notably the reason for Teen Titans' cancellation. Wil offers interesting discussion on the issue, which you can hear starting about 20 minutes into the audio clip (for those who cut to the chase).

Titansgo.net has the link for the podcast on their main page but also they left a transcription of Wheaton's musings which I am leaving here for those who don't want to bother with downloading.

Transcripted from: Wil Wheaton's Radio Free Burrito Episode 4

Teen Titans portion

Wil: I guess this is as good a time as any to bring this up. You
know, Teen Titans has been cancelled. I know, I'm just as shocked as
you are.

Some new people came into Warner Bros. Feature Animation - new bosses - and as part of their "We're here, we're the bosses, get used to it" they had all of the existing shows come in and re-pitch - the producers and writers had to come in. It didn't matter if the show had been on the air for 10 years or 5 years or if it had only run 3 episodes - they had to come back in and re-pitch it.

The producers of Teen Titans, which I really think is one of the greatest shows out of Warner Feature Animation in a very long time - and I'm not just saying that because I work on it, I'm saying it because it has this amazing crossover appeal to little kids and to teenagers and also to - you know, there's even some college-age kids who like the Teen Titans.

They had to go in and re-pitch it and for whatever reason the new overlords over there didn't like it. There's a petition online, and I'll put a link in the show notes (I've got to find it) - some of my friends from Titans emailed me the link, where people can go and fill out this petition. If enough people send notes to the new producer folks over at Warner Bros. they may put the show back on the air.

Between you and me, most animated shows exist as a means of selling action figures. That's why on the Simpsons, where Abe Simpson won the award for writing Itchy and Scratchy, one of the nominated shows was Action Figure Man (the How to Buy Action Figure Man episode). Everybody knows it, and it's okay - it's not like it's a big secret and it's not like it's anything to be ashamed of.

Well, let me tell you - Teen Titans sells action figures. Holy crap, does it sell action figures! And all kinds of different ones, too! Like, little playsets for kids, but also things like the giant weirdo bobblehead Robins and Aqualads and Cyborgs that older kids like. So, I don't know what the hell they were thinking. But, it's been
cancelled and it totally bums me out because I think it was a great show and I was really excited and proud and happy to be a part of it.

So, if you're the type of person that signs online petitions, check the show notes for this show and send a note off there that you like them.

I probably wouldn't bother with this but not only has it good insight on the change in management but primarily it shows a cast member's POV of the cancellation and that I thought would be good to share. Just follow the link there on the transcript and good luck with the online petition.

So, it is the Cartoon Network execs' fault huh? I knew it.

Anyways, at least Wil thinks that there's still hope for the show, so I suppose that's good news.

I saw this over at Titans Go, and wasn't all that surprised. It sounded like that kind of situation. But anyway, I signed the online petition, I've sent my letters....now, I'll sit back and hope for the best. May seem a little unactive, but I think I did my part.

I wish we could do more than just sign the petition...but there isn't much else we can do beside send letters and show our support for the show by buying dvds, action figures, etc and so on...maybe if we're lucky, these new producers will get the idea and bring back our beloved show.
