Today we were working in a field where a forage crop was recently planted. We were picking up stones to remove them from the field so as not to damage machinery, and the recent ploughing brought up lots of rocks. We gathered them in small piles so we could then load them on the truck to be carried out of the field.

I found a small single white downy feather. It was so soft and fragile that the gentlest breeze made it sway. It was also very clean, no mud or dirt on it. We decided that it was from either a white or blue Heron.

from: http://www.whats-your-sign.com/meaning-of-the-heron.html

"The heron is shrewd, intelligent, resourceful and also very determined. Whatever heron wants, heron gets.

Speaking of the heron's attributes, here are a few keywords relating to the heron..."

Symbolic Meaning of the Heron

Calm
Grace
Solitude
Patience
Longevity
Versatility
Tranquility
Good Luck
Partnership
Intelligence
Domesticity
Being Present
Determination
Independence
Resourcefulness

"I look at that list and go "whoa!" - what an admirable set of qualities. In truth, the heron is an admirable bird, and those who have an affinity to the heron as a guide or totem are equally admired. Keep reading to identify how the heron earned these qualities, and how the heron freely gives them for our own use in daily life."

The feather is also a symbol: http://www.whats-your-sign.com/symbol-mean...f-feathers.html

"Symbol meaning of feathers deal with ascension and spiritual evolution to a higher plane. Feathers were worn by Native American Chiefs to symbolize their communication with Spirit, and to express their celestial wisdom. Also in the Native American Indian culture, feathers represented the power of the thunder gods, along with the power of air and wind."

The Egyptians saw the feather as a symbol of truth balance and justice, Maat.

Something to ponder as we see the revealing of lies, war, betrayal and amorality.

awesome totem, dennis... It's amazing you identified the feather - i love it... they are really cool birds with wonderful symbolics.

There is a blue heron that shows up around here every once in awhile.. I love watching it fly, too...huge bird. When my children were younger, my dad would take us on his old pontoon boat and we'd go all around the lake trying to spot the heron...
