College student's turtle project takes dark twist By By JEFFREY COLLINS | Associated Press Exactly! Sadly, the turtle helpers are in the minority nowadays. The worst I saw was when I saw a momma turkey leading an unbelievablly huge flock of babies across a highway and cars stopped in both directions. then the car coming up behind me swing into the oncoming lane to pass and just floor it. Not only endangering the turkeys but, at around 90 miles per hour, endangering the cars stopped the other way if they had not swung back into our lane in time. Fortunately, the momma turkey made it across, along with all her babies. She was stressed already trying to get the babies across, about 50 of them. The look on her face was sheer terror. They just fled when they saw that ^#$@ coming. We tried to catch up to them when it was all clear in order to get their license plate info so we could report them, but they were going too fast for safety. I could say some really bad words, just remembering. Yes, I've helped turtles cross roads before. |

glad to hear the turkey family made it across, luna... on a lighter note - very often there is a story on the news about rescues or sheltering of baby ducks or geese... they can be such sweet stories.. |

Those can be such sweet stories. Oh gosh! That made me remember something horrible though. It stirred of the entire city at the time. So, I took comfort in the one deviant not reflecting the rest of us. No, I won't say because it was so terrible. |
