New here. Before I begin the weather discussions etc, i'd like to share my weather service site. We are a service that does exactly what National Weather Service and Storm Prediction Center does, but for Southern California, covering 9 counties. We don't copy them, and the forecasts are our own. We actually don't like NWS, lol. Visit us at www.ontarioweatherservice.com Now to the topic. Looks like a Nor'easter for sure however what I think it depends on is the jet stream coming in around the storm over me now. The wind storm, with some showers up North will be the SAME low presure system that causes your nor'easter type conditions. Snow/Rain line will be right near NYC so it is indeed a tough cool. Surface low at this time may have a pressure 970, which is needless to say, AMAZING, and comparable to the major wind storms in the Northwest last year. What I am seeing for the NYC area is interesting. Drying air in the mid levels with a 70 mph low level jet. This is indeed strong, and with the mid level jet in place. my formula hits near hurricane force wind gusts possible! Wow , I will keep an eye on this for sure, but trends could change for the better, or even worse. I'll watch this one for you. Could be dangerous Kevin |

Thanks for the information, Kevin. It's greatly appreciated. I've been following your reports for some time and you do a great job. Nor'easters are serious storms - my brother-in-law lost his life when a sudden Nor'easter came up and completely destroyed his boat several years back. Me in chgo = lol.btw - Just listened to Tom Skilling and he made a reference to the cyclonic flow of the storm around here. Thought you'd be interested in that, being you mentioned a hurricane type 'eye' that could occur over this area yesterday. |

Welcome aboard. Thanks for the heads up. I'm in the Southern Tennesee/Northern Alabama area where we all just got WHACKED with a below 24 degree hard freeze. For almost a month prior we had June like weather which had the trees in almost full leaf. Even our oaks got burned in this one.

Storm Pummels East Coast With Rain, Wind By KAREN MATTHEWS, Associated Press Writer 1 hour ago NEW YORK - A fierce spring nor'easter that stretched from Florida to Maine drenched the New York City area, causing heavy flooding that canceled school Monday, forced people to evacuate and slowed the soggy morning commute. The record-setting rain began falling Sunday night and continued into Monday morning. The storm was especially harsh in the suburbs north of New York City, where flooding led two communities to declare states of emergency. The National Guard was called into the area overnight to help with rescue and evacuation efforts. more at link.. http://www.comcast.net/news/index.jsp?cat=...qh=itn_rainsnow |

Storm Soaks Northeast With Record Rain By DAVID BAUDER, Associated Press Writer 3 hours ago CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Hundreds of people were evacuated from flooded homes Monday and refrigerators and trucks floated downstream as a fierce nor'easter drenched the Northeast with record rainfall, knocking out power to hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses. Nine deaths were blamed on the huge storm. Washouts, flooding, mudslides and fallen trees blocked roads. As waves pounded the coast, boats sank at their piers in Maine. Suburbs north of New York City were among the hardest hit. Mamaroneck resident Nicholas Staropoli said a truck near his home "actually floated up on the riverbank." Rain was still falling Monday morning in the New York area and New England after it began early Sunday along the East Coast from Florida to New England. By afternoon, it was light and intermittent. more at link.. http://www.comcast.net/news/index.jsp?cat=...qh=itn_rainsnow |
