Densha de Go! Plug n Play; Anyone thinking of getting it? (or perhaps already got it?)

Has anyone heard anything at all about retailers ever getting units with the updated software? I’m afraid that there won’t be another production run. Even if they do, I’m not sure how we will be able to tell which version we will be getting...

In order to fix the problem of “DENSHA DE GO! PLUG & PLAY” this time, we would like to collect the main unit of your game machine temporarily, then return it to you after updating it to the modified version software.

We have just started accepting the applications from the URL below, please click the link and register your information as the following procedure.

*Please note that this product is originally made for Japan only.

[Fixed contents]
1. Fixed the problem that makes 205 series of Yamanote line #02 unable to proceed at Ebisu station
2. Fixed the problem that suddenly stopped error during play
3. Fixed the collapse of objects displayed on map and modified displayed objects
4. Fixed the problem that the sun is displayed at a nighttime stage
5. Fixed the problem that choices in front of the Yamanote Line Osaki station are displayed for a second at the conductor mode
6. Reduction of decrease in processing speed at the following place that occurs while running train
・ Where multiple lines are displayed
・ Places where multiple vehicles are displayed at the same time
・ Where to enter the station
・ When displaying in outer view

[Software update procedure]
1. Register your information for air waybill from the application form below.
2. Check the email titled "Registration Complete" which is sent to your registered email address after you complete the registration.
3. You will receive the email attached cash on delivery air waybill and invoice in a week or so after the registration, please confirm your shipment information on them are all correct.
4. Wrap only the main body of "DENSHA DE GO! PLUG & PLAY" with the shock absorbing material to avoid the damage while shipping and pack it in a carton, print out the air waybill and invoice attached our mail, then call DHL and hand them over. Please pack in a carton even if you have multiple number.
5. We will send the updated machine back to you via DHL prepaid shipment. If the custom duties or taxes at your end are needed, we are afraid that we ask you to pay them for this software update.

*Save data of your game machine is expected to be back to you without deleting.
*The required term for update will be around 3 weeks after you return it as a guide.

Huge props to TAITO for doing this! As they have stated in the mail, the product was intended for use in Japan only, so they really are in no way obliterated to do this. I kinda feel bad thinking about how much of a commercial loss PLUG & PLAY must've been for them...

This is such great news! :D Was estatic to see that email in my inbox this morning.

I filled out the form but I didn't actually recieve that 'automatic confirmation email' they were talking about (checked spam etc.) - did anyone else?

EDIT: I literally just received the email after posting this, haha. Took about 3 hours from when I sent in the form!

A bit worried about customs, will keep proof of everything so I can justify the taxes were already paid and this was a repair.

I have just boxed the unit and tomorrow morning DHL should be picking it up from my workplace.

In the invoice, the unit value is quite low, we should not have many problems with customs (If any at all, as it's clearly stated as a shipment with no commercial value for repair)

Excellent! :D

BTW, am I reading the instructions right that we're meant to put just the controller itself in a box for shipping (i.e. without the cardboard packaging it came in)?

Yes, just the controller.

I supose they will ship the unit back with the special box they used for the upgrade program in japan.

DHL is gonna come pick the package up tomorrow morning.

Tried my best wrapping it up with multiple protective layers. I really hope to get my unit back in one piece...
