Hi Does anyone around here planning of getting the DDG Plug n Play controller that was released in Japan yesterday? Im having a couple of them ordered and on the way (Two units of the Prime day 'yellow' version, and one unit of the regular 'dark-grey' version) Maybe some of you will recieve yours before my units arrive and can give a first impression. |

Hi all! I've read these boards for a while but just registered to post today, because my Plug & Play came early and I wanted to contribute some impressions! I posted a few pictures on Twitter (https://twitter.com/zipmon/status/962420692279947269), and besides the controller it came with an instruction manual and a flyer for the new DDG arcade game, which was a nice touch! It feels great! I've never played Final before, but this looks great in HD on the big screen! The controller feels just as solid as the other DDG controllers I've used -- the buttons are much stiffer than on my Type 1, but that was also bought used and years old, so perhaps these will soften up with use! All the routes from Final are there, Normal & Enjoy modes, and with the exception of some casualties of the hardware (no 2p mode, no screen position adjust option), it seems to be the same, just in HD! I've run into some framerate drops/slowdown pulling into certain busy stations, but on the whole it's super smooth and looks amazing! (Again, I haven't played Final on a PS2, so I'm not sure if that same slowdown was in the original or not!) The rumble is also there as well, and on the default ('weak') setting, it's such a cool touch! EDIT: I've also unfortunately experienced a few crashes! Twice on the second section of Yamanote Line Diagram 2, and once on the first section of Diagram 6 (both annoyingly close to the ends!) it's gone to a grey screen with "Game aborted, please shutdown." I'd definitely be interested to hear if other people experience these too - hoping it's something that can be fixed with firmware and nothing wrong with my unit! EDIT 2: Looks like they're aware of at least the first crash point and are working on a fix! https://www.taito.co.jp/corporate/topics/news/3063 Hope everyone else's arrive soon - in spite of those lockups I'm still having a great time with it so far!

Nice, can't wait to try mine ![]() A bit worried about the crashes... let's hope this is upgradable via USB and we don't have to send them back...

Hi! Mine just arrived today and upon trying out the first Yamanote line diagram, I noticed that instead of playing each respective station's jingle, the game simply repeats the Ueno sound (the hideous one that sounds like a ringing signal) over and over again. This seems really odd for a game that does everything it can to deliver an otherwise very authentic experience. Is there like an option or something to change that? The many "songs" of Tokyo's JR stations are a really unique characteristic after all. |

This sounds all but great. Let's just hope that it can be fixed via USB upgrade like ZeusII said. |

Just did a quick play, very rough as expected but at least it looks better than in my PS2. Will enjoy, that is for sure. Regarding station tunes... There's a setting about bgm on options but I did not try it yet, it may just be to hear music during gameplay. |

Long time lurker, first time poster. I've spent two evenings with P&P so far. The first night I used the USB port on my TV, which is old and doesn't supply 2A. The game runs, but performance was terrible. Just like a raspberry pi, clock speed seems to nosedive when power is insufficient. 2nd night, I used a 2A wall charger and performance was better, but it's definitely not up to par with DDG Final on a PS2 or PC. Frame rates can drop down to 10 FPS or less, which is disappointing. Either way - check your power supply! I'm not sure which version this port is running or what the underlying operating system is. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the PC build ported over to linux or something. Yes, the station jingles are missing, and the replacement alarm is loud and annoying to hear at every stop (confirmed by my wife). My guess is that this is a music licensing issue, and any licenses to JR-owned jingles that Taito had purchased have expired. The hardware itself is great in concept - DDG without dragging out the consoles & controllers. Good quality, no complaints. Wishlist for the software side would be: - Optimize for frame rate, aim for 30fps minimum. I'd take 480p to have this. - Station jingles. I had hopes that this would be successful enough for Taito to keep it up, and maybe ship a Shinkansen version. But go read (or translate) the Amazon.co.jp reviews and you'll see that this has not been well received at all. |
