Unbalance Ddg Pc Install Fun

I've managed to gather myself some of the Unbalance PC DDG games & over the last week I've finally gotten some time to have a go at installing (& hopefully play with) them. Now, these are the CD versions - not the downloads & they're been installed on a Win2k PC, with a PC running XP as backup for any issues that might be down to incompatibilities with Win2k. Both OS's are US English versions.

Here's the results so far:

Installs to Win2k with no problem:
DDG: 2 3000th (1480yen edition)
DDG: Professional (1980yen edition)
DDG: Professional 2 (Original edition)
DDG: Final (Original edition)

Starts to install, but fails after writing some files with the following error:

DDG: Ryojohen (1980yen edition)

Install wizard fails almost immediately with the following error (or very similar):

DDG (1480yen edition)
DDG: 3 (1980yen edition)
DDG: Nagoya (1480yen edition)
DDG: Shinkansen (1980yen edition)
Kisha De Go (1480yen edition)

So far, I get similar results on the XP machine. I may need to go root around for a win98 PC to rule that out of the equation, but right now I'm guessing the error on DDG:Ryojohen is probably due to a Japanese filename. The errors on the others are harder to decipher - it mentions the CD-ROM, but I've tried the install on several different CD-ROM drives & on 2 machines with the same results. The discs themselves are in excellent condition (used games from Japan always seem to be in better condition than used ones I get in the US).

Anyway - thought it might be useful to document my progress thus far & also ask for any advice from any members who've already had experience of these releases?

Cheers, Limey.

I think thats only available on XP - win2k doesn't display such an option. Whilst the XP machine does show a number of Japanese codepage tables installed, it doesn't show Japanese on the list of languages at the top of that form - I think I'd need to install the east-asian language packs to enable this & unfortunately, that requires an XP pro install CD. I'll have to hunt for one, as I brought my laptop used & it came with XP pro preinstalled & no support/install CDs.

so far, I have only bought and installed two PC DDG games, DDG:Final and DDG:Shinkansen. I downloaded the demo of DDG:Final and bought it, while my friend bought the CD version of DDG:Shinkansen in Japan for me  . I have no problem installing both of them. While installing DDG:Shinkansen in my Windows XP computer, I didn't get that error message... Well, I installed the Japanese language when I installed Windows XP, so that's maybe why I have no trouble installing it. Also, although this fact is not important, I run my windows XP with bootcamp in my MacBook

Kevin, that's useful to know - at least I know that DDG:Shinkansen will work on XP. Once I've gotten my hands on the XP pro install disc, I'll try again after loading up the asian language pack.

I'm assuming that your Shinkansen CD is the 1980yen release?

Fahrplan

Hi! I am from Germany and new to this forum.
My experiences with the densha de go PC Versions are:
I have bought Densha de Go! Ryojo-hen (the 1980 Yen-Edition) from Unbalance (I orderd it via playasia.com) and I had to switch the Language from my windows 2000 machine to Japanesse in order to install it. After installing it I changed the language back to german and it works fine (altough you can not read the keyboard option screen before the game starts but you can click on the Button to start the game).

I also downloaded and installed Densha de go Shinkansen! via Boonty. Parts form the download interface are even in German; but the payment process is in Japanese only. I entered my address (Had to figure out how Germany is written in Japannese) and my Credit Card Number (I habe a Visa Debit Card) and the game was unlocked.
You cannot read the Option Screen again (it displays only '???') but you can click the button to start the game.

I have also a laptop with Windows XP SP2 (German Edition); i can install both games on it with no trouble.

Greetings,

Fahrplan from Germany.

<Click here> for info on setting the non-unicode language. I'm not certain, but I think the process is the same/similar between XP home/pro.

It sounds like you're running into the same problem that I ran into - unfortunately, it didn't resolve the problem with Kisha for me. If you get it running, please let me know how!

Just to update the thread - I obtained the older 5980yen version of DDG:Shinkansen (DGS-180) and can confirm that it installs/plays without issue on my Win2k box. :D

Still don't know what the problem is with the 1980yen version on my machine...
