"Following the closure of Lik-Sang last week, fellow online retailer Play-Asia.com has told customers reserving an import PlayStation 3 that their preorders have been cancelled. In an email sent out to consumers yesterday, Play-Asia cited "licensing and distribution limitations" as the reason for the cancellations. "As a result, we are very sorry to let you know that we have now cancelled your non-binding reservation with us," the email continues. Advertisement "Rest assured, as this was a 'no money down' reservation only, no funds have been debited in any way." All the listings on the retailer's website for PS3 units, games and accessories have now been changed to read "preorders closed". The news comes less than a week after Lik-Sang announced it was to close following a series of lawsuits filed by Sony over the issue of import PSPs. Earlier this month, Sony warned that it would "utilise the full scope of the law" to prevent retailers from importing any of its consoles." |

Glad I ordered my PS2 from Lik Sang when I did. I really don't get the mentality of Sony. They don't release titles in the west (and I'm not just talking train or transport related stuff) yet try and block bona fide users from getting their hands on the titles or the means to play them. It's even more restrictive than DVD regional coding. If they want to control it, why not have one or two licensed sellers who are authorised to carry out the transactions. Sony are basically dictating what games people in a particular country are allowed to play. Oh and they ignore emails or petitions asking for the titles to be given a western release. |

Something tells me that the way sony is going, they aren't very far off making a mistake that could loose them their good reputation forever. Here in Australia alot of people are betting that Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD is going to become the next BETAMAX vs VHS battle (With Blu-Ray loosing badly) |

The average Blu-Ray player is currently priced way above the equivalent HD-DVD. The cheapest in the UK is the Samsung model at around GBP £900 and which by all accounts isn't that good. The HD players will probably retail for less than half that. The higher end Blu-Ray players are going for well over GBP £1000, hardly a mass market price. I know PS3 is supposed to be Blu-Ray compatible at half that price but it makes you wonder what the catch will be (or the current players are just artificially expensive). Unfortunately, 20th Century Fox is backing Blu-Ray which means if they are eventually released you will need a Blu-Ray player to watch the likes of the Star Wars or Alien movies in high definition.... |
