"The Real Riding Simulator"!! This arrived on Saturday having been ordered Monday from Yes-Asia. I hadn't realised it was out yet... it came out at the beginning of February in Japan. Having been developed by Digital Polyphony the game uses the GT4 "game engine" so it looks superb. There are 125 bikes (from the 80's to the present) and 37 tracks (one of which is new). At least I know the tracks... There is no money in the game. You obtain bikes by taking Challenges (86 ot them for bikes that are unlocked from the four licenses plus a few available initially), License Golds and for each race (so far anyway). There are road and track machines to get. Photomode is present so you can take pitures of the bikes. The 'Ring is present so you can have an involving ride there! There is a Free Run mode so you can try any bike on any track (all tracks are available at the start). Arcade mode is also available. THe Challenges mostly involve having to overtake another bike within a set number of laps and stay ahead for 10 seconds. There are a few Hot Lap Challenges as well. There are not that many Tune-up options and the only power boost for the road bikes is by changing the exhaust which gives a 5% power increase. Needless to say there are settings that can be adjusted and tyres that can be changed so it is familiar territiory... to an extent. I am enjoying it so far being at about 40% complete. I still have about 60 hours to go as there are some 8 hour races apparently. Tyre wear will begin to be an issue there I suspect (though I did begin to get problems after 3 laps on some courses). You can play it like a car sim with limited control options (though weight movement with the left stick appears to be crucial) or there is "Professional" mode where the brekes can be applied separately. |

Here are some Photomode images I did yesterday of the BMW K1200S racer. I need to do some more using a bike with an exposed engine: http://www.rogs.dial.pipex.com/Citta%20di%20Aria_0001.JPG http://www.rogs.dial.pipex.com/Citta%20di%20Aria_0002.JPG http://www.rogs.dial.pipex.com/Citta%20di%20Aria_0004.JPG http://www.rogs.dial.pipex.com/Citta%20di%20Aria_0005.JPG http://www.rogs.dial.pipex.com/Citta%20di%20Aria_0006.JPG http://www.rogs.dial.pipex.com/Costa_di_Amalfi_0001.JPG http://www.rogs.dial.pipex.com/Costa_di_Amalfi_0002.JPG http://www.rogs.dial.pipex.com/Costa_di_Amalfi_0004.JPG http://www.rogs.dial.pipex.com/Costa_di_Amalfi_0005.JPG http://www.rogs.dial.pipex.com/Costa_di_Amalfi_0006.JPG Now corrected and with another bike. |

I did buy that version (just to keep the GT collection up to date). I now also have the American release which was posted last Tuesday by VG+ and arrived on Friday! Not a huge difference... 7 new bikes, 1 new race series, new accessories and a new Semi-Pro mode. At least I can now read the menus... |
