The decision of what college to attend is one that faces many students in America each year. According to the 2008 Census over 20 million students attend College in the United States each year. But for me this was a new challenge. I always knew after graduated High school I wanted to go to College. But what I didn’t know at the time was this would be the biggest decision of my adult life to date.
About two months into my senior year of high school I began looking at colleges around the state. My original plan was to jump right into a four year university. As I looked at the required classes I noticed that I didn’t meet all the requirements for acceptance. I finally found what I was looking for and made the decision to attend Grambling State University. I thought I had everything worked out; But things don’t always go as planed.
I submitted my Application and got a letter stating that my acceptance was pending the submission of some other documents I needed. But I knew I had everything so I wasn’t worried . After graduation I began getting more involved in work and other things. Little did I know thatdeadlines were creeping closer and closer. Before I realized what happened It was Orientation week; and I had yet to even apply for student housing. As a result, I decided to hold off on my education for a semester and pick it up in the fall. After several other issues came up I decided that Grambling wasn’t the right fit for me. That is when I turned my eyes to Delgado.
Delgado offered me something I couldn’t get anywhere else; A chance to continue my education. Having gone to school in Jefferson Parrish, I knew of Delgado very well. Many of my teachers attended Delgado. I also have a sister who attended Delgado in the past. I met up and talked with an old school friend who is currently attending Delgado. All of these things assured me that I had made the right choice.
With an Ideal location, affordable price, and great reputation as a starter school I knew that Delgado was right for me. I heard a quote once that said “Life happens when you’re out making other plans.” And that is what happened to me. Everything didn’t go the way I planned; but it all worked in the end. But getting into a good school is only a part of the battle. Now it’s time for me to put in the work to make my college experience as successful as possible.
