Hunter descended into the Ghost World. He had been here before. With the HBRC, Sky High, Soma of Vice and Rectitude, and the JEBTeam occupied, Hunter was the only remaining defender of the worlds who wasn't the armed forces or local law enforcement. But he was fine with his role. This was his life. He was used to it, and in fact, he delightes in it. Hunter worked better alone. Being with others depleted his energy as with all introverts. Additionally, he did not have to watch out for anyone else. With his amount of power, it was tough for him to fight fully without anyone else. He pulled his hood further over his face. It was similar to a previous disturbance. Go down, fix it, leave. Unfortunately, sometimes his efforts were disrupted by different thinds. Usually Hunter could find a way to rectify those interruptions. The most recurrent interruption had never been rectified: Gertrude McFinnigan. Hunter would not kill her because she was doing her job. She would kill him if she had the chance. She had a new partner now, and Hunter hoped that that might ease her obsession with catching him. After his latest skirmish with Malcolm the Knife, Hunter was humilated and hoped that this would go smoothly. In the midst of all this hoopla, Hunter completed his job: catching someone who had stole someone's purse in the subway station. He returned the purse. The lady, who was around Hunter's age said, "Thanks so much! May I take you out to dinner?" Hunter opened his mouth to respond, but no words came out. He was so surprised that someone had asked him out. But then, Gertrude showed up, and this time with her new partner. Seeing two police officers. The woman scurried off on her way. "You are under arrest, Hunter." |

"Allow me to introduce my new partner," Gertrude continued. "His name is Clint." When Hunter realized that she was just going to give him a first name, he turned and studied the man. The man looked like he was built to last. He had a crew-cut brown hair. He also was tall and muscular, and had many things tied on him. Hunter reasoned that they were most likely weapons. "And I am completely devoted to taking you in," Clint added. "By force." He took a grenade launcher off his back and fired it at Hunter. Hunter nonchalantly put up a dark magic shield that blocked. And as the smoke was clouding his vision, he lowered it. But out of nowhere, a fist with brass knuckles came out from the smoke and connected with Hunter's face. The brass knuckles belonged to Clint. "Come on, is that all you've got?" Clint laughed. He was clearly enjoying the fight. He came again with a left hook, and then a right, and then an uppercut. Hunter methodically dodged each with swift motions. Again a dodge. Left, right, right, back, and then right again. Clint kept missing which made him even more angry. Hunter kept dodging, but he noticed McFinnigan taking out her gun. He quickly sent a zap of dark magic at her hand, causing her to drop her weapon as she took it out her holster while he was dodging. Clint was tired of punching and kicked at Hunter. Hunter grabbed his leg and threw him back. Clint was furious, and began to throw multiple grenades at Hunter at the same time. Hunter sighed. |

One grenade landed to the left of Hunter. Another landed to the right, and one landed in fron of Hunter, but far enough away from Clint that it would not harm him. As each one exploded at the same time, Hunter raised a bubble shield around himself. But because of the sheer force of the explosion, the shield was shattered and Hunter was thrown back and slid along ways on the pavement of the road. Clint grinned. "Let's try this again!" he yelled as he took out his rocket launcher. Clint cackled as he fired off a rocket and then began to guide it. Gertrude was surprised at Clint's depravity but stayed silent. This was her chance to catch Hunter. Hunter got up, fighting the urge to rub injured parts of his body. He saw the rocket heading straight towards him, and didn't have the urge to fly away. He generated a thin katana made out of dark magic and stood, facing the rocket head-on, with no expression. Hunter put forward his katana with arms outstretched directly in front of him. As it headed towards him, the tip to the very back was cleaved neatly into two equal halves. Each half narrowly missed Hunter as the went to either side of him after they were cut. They both landed harmlessly behind him. Hunter dissipated his sword. Clint was stunned that Hunter could do this, but laughed all the louder as Hunter ran towards Clint. Hunter sent a powerful wave of dark energy from both of his hands, and they hit Clint and point blank range sending him through the wall of a reatil store. He crashed through the wall and fell down and slid to a stop. Hunter turned to Gertrude and said softly, "Leave me alone." |

Suddenly, Hunter was attacked from behind. He stumbled forward and used a quick move to turn around and see who was attacking him. It was Clint. "You think I can't take a hit?" Clint sarcastically quipped as he began laughing maniacally. "You're good kid, but not good enough." He took out his knife and thrust it at Hunter, who dodged to the side, but it cut through his robe, and tore a piece off. Hunter grabbed his arm and snapped it. "You are bringing this upon yourself," Hunter warned as Clint yowled in pain. Clint had a fire in his eyes that seemed insatiable. Hunter said, "I fear your lust to fight and kill will consume you. How are you on the police force?" Clint kept trying to fight Hunter, with himself getting angrier and angrier. Sweat was pouring down his face, and his veins were bulging. Gertrude answered Hunter's question. "He is on the police force because I recommended him. He is my brother and cannot stand to see his little sister fail. He will not stop unless I tell him to, and until you are stopped, I will not tell him to stop." Hunter, though still having barely any emotion, could not help but wonder what he had done for Gertrude to hate him so much. He realized that they did not do things the same way, but they were still both defenders of justice. Hunter guessed that it was because she had never failed before and Hunter was the one person that she could not catch. Hunter loathed fighting Clint even more than he loathed Criss Cross. Clint would not give up. Hunter flew away from them, leaving the world and leaving the brother and sister that hated him. "I just want balance," was all Hunter could say. |
