Was talking to Steve Kasten on the phone the other day and he said: "Any new riders coming out that you know of?" Couldn't really say yes to that question.....figured I would put out the play by play on the racing we do on the blacktop and dirt to see if anyone else wants to come play with us...... You are racing at stock car tracks during the stock car races. On the blacktop the rubber laid down by the cars makes for a groove 5 times as wide as you ever have on the ice. Same for the dirt but the cars can make it rough in places. You need a steel shoe to ride. Several places make them and some guys make their own; especially on the blacktop. You need full leathers and road race style gloves to race on the blacktop; if the pavement and your body meet you would know why very quickly. We use the same tires for both dirt and blacktop; Maxxis or Dunlop/Goodyears. Yes the tires wear out quicker on the blacktop but are still something you can buy where everyone is on the same page tractionwise. Cost under $200 each. One cycle class; fast and slow guys all together. Usually try to split up speed/skill levels at least in the heat races. 6 lap heats, 10 lap features on the blacktop. Dirt track 8 lap heats, 15 lap features. Pit facilities for racers and grandstands for spectators. $20/$25 pit entry fees for rider/pit crew and grandstand $10/12 admission with family pass available at marshfield speedway..... www.marshfieldspeedway.com for more info. We get to time trial most nights on the blacktop....see how fast you can go by yourself. All the riders pit together and help each other out.....Yes this is competitive racing/riding but main interest still is to have fun and not end up on the ground. Bikes of choice; lowered 450 moto bikes, 600/500 rotax framers, Marky Will and his brother have shown up and used their CR250/500s with some good finishes, Kaw 500s etc would work also. Stock suspended motobikes would work on the dirt and you don't need the full leathers there but still need a steelshoe..... No trophies....cash payback only. Races are taped at blacktop; you can go up to VIP bar and see what you look like compared to what it felt like. All blacktop races on saturday; pits open at 4 ish, done most times by 9 or 10 oclock. Badger points fund offered; $5 at each race per rider; end of season high point trophy also. Last couple of years Steve Kasten has won the overall.....this year????? There will be some quad races also at the Central Wisconsin Raceway by Unity; looks like June 26, July 9/23, August 13 and Sept 10; not sure of the classes offered or the payout. I know a lot of you riders put your equipment away during the summertime and do other things and can appreciate that. But here is a chance to compete locally and have a good time on something that is just gathering dust all summer long otherwise. None of the blacktop or Badger Races are AMA sanctioned so no AMA or district card needed. 16 years old to race on blacktop with parents consent and presence; 18 years old without parents consent. More questions: Woody/Cliff Eckes @ 715 384 4555 or cliffscycle@aol.com or Steve Kasten 715 446 2225 badgerracingassn.com Woody Eckes PS: Yes I even have a fishing pond at the blacktop track.... |
