So what happens when you grind the "tall" screws down to the AMA/CWIRA legal 3/16"? I've been hearing some interesting things about how grinding/sharpening the Kanadien Kold Kutter actually brings it down to the 3/16" mark. Then that brings up the M44's. Anybody have thoughts on this? BTW: In case you were wondering, all three of these are illegal in the AMA or CWIRA. The reason is they exceed the 3/16" tall screw head rule.

MotoBill- Your random thought is just that -random. I would suggest reading the rule book, specifically rule #4 which states the MAXIMUM height of screws is 3/16" (NOT 1/4") to be CWIRA legal. And- good luck going to an AMA sanctioned event with gold screws by the way. The rule also states that the screws basic size and function cannot be altered and can only be sharpened to a "like new" condition. Now, we all know that you can sharpen "gold" screws- not the black ones. The problem with sharpening is as you sharpen the screw you are reducing the effective height. I believe thoughts on screws is simple....golds for hard ice/cold days and blacks for soft ice/ warm days. just my .02 -Rick |

OOPS! I MEANT to say 3/16" but my brain was still working on the 1/4" scale. Which is to say it was working at 25%. And the sharpening idea was intended to be within the "basic shape" rule - but again, the question would also be "would it work?". And more importantly - why bother? But those MF44 screws sure look interesting. Crazy Canadians. |

Looks like if you grind down the Kold Kutter Kanadien you will end up with a shallow kerf which will reduce the cutting/digging power of the screw. The MF44 has a deeper and possibly wider kerf so it may be very useable after grinding down to 3/16" but why bother when it will end up being close to an American Kold Kutter. Just my 2 cents. |

OK its a lot of extra work fer nothin' I tried the taller screws years ago and saw no big advantage .Maybe a bit more tracktion in the snow but not much .This was back in the GOLD screw days . So now grind down a canadian screw ? where is the advantage ? I cant see it for the work . Now ifn cwira didnt hace so many rubber atv classes to sweep the track clean ? Then they would probly help at full lenght . right now a good set of black screwed tires brings up to the rider . And power of the engine ,suspension ect. Dont think canadian screws will give ya an advantage NOW lets talk about the RUSSIAN tires . |
