Greetings fellow nerdlings, I have returned to my old list making roots and made a list, just like my old list making roots. Yes, we have a T Rex. This list is quite different then my others... Wait, nah, it isn't. It's me in my usual stubborn, thousands of hours spent/wasted on movies, trying to be artsy and unusual self. Also... this list is back to having a real order! No more undecided 25 awesome things deal, this is an actual list of number 25 to number 1! Either later tonight or tomorrow I'll post 25, 24 and 23. Enjoy, post comments, post your own movies you like. Whatever. |

You know, I was once happy that i completely forgot that movie existed, now I'm so... indifferent... Meh. Here we go! 25: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory ![]() A magical little film from my childhood. If there is any reason why I love colour and tunnels that create surreal images that'll haunt you for years, it's this movie. It has great tunes, classic scenes, Gene Wilder rules and the whole concept of chasing your dream is inspirational and the result being a colourful world created by your imagination is very rewarding. This is a movie that can show you what you can accomplish if you work hard, be nice and don't stop believing that good things can happen. 24:Who Framed Roger Rabbit? ![]() Now, this film. Oh man, just try watching this movie and try to really think, how the hell is this happening? How is the sexy cartoon Jessica Rabbit flirting with these real men by adjusting their hats and coats? How is Roger breaking real records over his cartoon head? How is... I DON'T KNOW! Everything is so well constructed that you just lose yourself from trying to figure out how cartoons are interacting with the real world and you get more focused to the pretty dark noir style film that features both Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny. Ya. Not just in the same movie, but they interact with each other! WHAT! 23:Network ![]() I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE! Ok, this movie has two great scenes. Howard Beales mental breakdown and his speech on how TV is the most powerful force in the whole world. Both monologues are eye opening and insanely true. I have a smile on my face during both scenes, I agree completely with his ideals. Two lines that always run in my mind. "All I know first, you've got to get mad. You have to say 'I'm a human being GOD DAMN IT! MY LIFE HAS VALUE!'" and "IN GOD'S NAME YOU PEOPLE ARE THE REAL THING! We are the illusion!" If you need inspiration for how shitty society is at this moment, watch this movie. It'll change your views or at least make you feel great knowing another mad man out there thinks the same as you. 22 Toy Story![]() Ah, Toy Story. What an awesome movie. Not only was it the first full 3D animated movie, it was my first movie in theaters! How about that! Now, I'm excited for Toy Story 3, and the amazing thing is people like me who were close to Andy's age in the first movie is the same age as him in Toy Story 3. He's off to college, he has to give up his toys. All the Toy Story movies really represent our childhood more then toys just coming to life. Of course that's the awesome thing about the movies, but I think the message can be appreciated and understood by people who are all grown up now. 21 Spider-Man 2 ![]() Spider-Man 2 is still in my opinion the best Superhero movie of all time. Sure there are ones that are just as good like Dark Knight, The Crow, Batman, but...wait. Look at those 3 movies. Dark, almost scary, violent. What makes Spider-Man 2 stand out for me? The COLOUR, the humour, the characters, the action. Whether you actually believe it or not, these movies should look like and be like their comics. Although Dark Knight is very similar to Batman works in terms of theme and character, it lacks the look of a comic. Half way through it you think it can be a crime movie. Give Batman a new name and you have a new original New York/Chicago Gangster flick. Spider-Man 2 to me looks and feels just like the cartoon or the comic and that's what the exact goal should be for comic movies. 20 Not One Less ![]() Ah China. You make damn fine food, and damn fine films if I may add. Don't worry Japan, I like you to. I like ya a lot! What was I talking about? Oh right, this movie. I watched it several years ago at 2 am on tv. I watched the whole thing and was quite amazed by it. This was my first neorealism film, and yes the Italians do it better and invented neorealism films, but this one was really something and it still lingers around in me to this day. If you really must know, the movie is about a young woman who is hired to be a substitute teacher for some poor farm school thing. She however won't get a dime, until the end of the week and to make sure every kid is there. "Not one less" the principal says to her. However, one student is like "lol I am going to the city to make money" and she is off to the city to find the child and bring him back to school. It end in an emotional display of...well emotion as she is allowed to be on the live news and beg for him to come home. Not only does he return, the station gives the school money allowing the students to actually have fun and have better learning materials. Edited by Duzzy, Apr 12 2010, 02:38 PM.

19Bowling for Columbine![]() Ok, so I always knew America sucked, but this was a movie that actually gave me a good reason to hate the good ol USA. After hearing this Mr. Moore spend 90 minutes bashing gun laws, I discovered a political platform called Liberal/Left Wing. Ya, I'm sure I would have learned I was a left winger without watching this film, but this movie made me somewhat interested in law and politics for a year or so after watching it. Not to an extreme extent, but still interested. 18The Naked Gun ![]() Hilarious movie. Oh even to this day I find new things to laugh at. As a kid it was the slapstick humour and now it's the quick wit random incoherent gibberish from the great Leslie Nielsen. So the impact? Well as a kid it was easily the funniest movie I have seen and it's still quite up there. I think the first time I ever laughed so hard I cried was from this movie. I think it was the scene where Frank drinks gallons of water at a press conference, leaves his mic turned on, heads to the washroom and pisses like a racehorse. The reaction of everybody listening to him pissing is priceless and the idea is so simple and genius 17Terminator 2 ![]() Yes, this list has and will have a lot of firsts, but how about the first movie I can recall watching? That's right, James Cameron made the movie that popped my movie watching cherry. T2 is the earliest film I can recall that I have watched. It says a lot eh? This one movie opened my eyes into the magic and interesting world of film. A lot of things that I like in movies are in this film. Time travel, good action, strong female character, humour, great dialogue, it's a terrific movie. Easily one of my faves. |

16 Citizen Kane ![]() Some early posters might recall that at one point I actually somewhat didn't care for this movie. However over the years after learning more about films, making films, watching films and multiple re watches, I like this movie the more I watch it. Everything about it is so well done. Not only that, Orson Welles never made a film before. Not only that, he was a radio actor. He just knew film very well. I would say the modern day equivalent is Tarantino. Tarantino never went to film school or anything, he just really liked movies. Welles was the same. It's inspirational to me that a 26 year old radio actor, who just really liked movies, was able to make what critics and film historians call the best movie ever made. 15 Zeitgeist ![]() A documentary on...well.. I dunno. Conspiracies and such. It separates into 3 acts. Religion, Media and Money. The idea is that these 3 things are our distractions to help the U.S. Government plan the New World Order. An idea of a one world government. Sounds crazy, yes, but it's extremely interesting. It has some truth to it, I guess. It makes sense, I don't really believe in it, but it's great to hear about the concept. Of course the New World Order Idea and Free Masons and all that has been around forever, but to me this was a solid 2 hour movie that gives great current day examples of the change to the One World Government and teaches you about some really interesting facts and ideas. 14 If.... ![]() After watching this movie for the first time, the Queen of England left the theater and had only one word to say. "Why?" Well, Queen, let me explain what I felt when I watched this film. It's a rebel yell against the imprisonment of society. You see, the movie ends with Mick Travis and his friends shooting up a school. Yay! Ok... it's not the most cheery ending and I can see why it's very controversial, after all in 1968 the concept of a school shooting was never heard of before and was a somewhat scary thought. The point is, the school represents the order and imprisonment that is society. What the movie is trying to say is we need people like Travis to stand out and be different to help us see society's faults and failures. Some of histories greatest thinkers were considered rebels. We may not appreciate their views now and find it radical, but in the long run, we'll really start to appreciate what they are trying to say. |

13 The Simpsons Movie ![]() Let me take you back to 2007. It was summer, I was 16, and from out of no where my favourite yellow skinned family makes their film debut...and man, it was really good. Like, damn, this was really good. What a positive boost from the disappointing last few years. Now as a kid, I always wanted them to make a Simpsons Movie. It's really amazing to see your favourite TV Show actually listen to their die hard nerds and make a movie. Not just right away like other great cartoons like Transformers or South Park, this movie had at least 10 whole years of build up and rumours and hype and anticipation. It was great. 12 The Big Lebowski ![]() When I first watched Big Lebowski, I just, I dunno. I thought it was really cool, but the 2nd time I watched it, I was dying of laughter. The amazing thing with this movie is I would say it has maybe like 5 or 6 real jokes. All the humour comes from the dialogue and acting. It's quite impressive to create such a funny, witty movie with hardly any jokes. Not to mention that I finally found the character I am like most, The Dude. Everyone who has seen this movie and knows me thinks this. I just don't smoke weed. I don't smoke weed, it's something I don't need. I'm like the Dude, chill, laid back and never rude. What was I saying? Oh ya, this also introduced me to The Coen Bros, and I like em. Good film makers. I love Fargo, A Serious Man, No Country for Old Men, and this movie. 11 Ghostbusters ![]() Oh, I love you Dan Aykroyd. I love you too Bill Murray. I have no beef with you either Harold Ramis. Ghostbusters is a great movie and in my opinion still one of the most fun original concepts of a movie ever. Catching ghosts within New York City, the ghosts powers fusing together to bring a dark lord, a giant marshmallow man walking around New York. My God, this is brilliant. I watch this movie maybe once a year or so. It's great and it's always great. A lot of my humour has developed from this movies style of jokes and once again this was one of the movies that helped me really love unrealistic things. Not to mention I think ghosts are really cool. |

TOP 10 MOTHAFUCKAS! I would post this a bit later, but I'm off to an Alice in Wonderland party. I'm dressing as The White Rabbit mixed with Raoul Duke from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. It's awesome. 10 Wayne's World ![]() Party on WAYNE! Wayne's World is one of the movies that has impacted my life the most. From the dialect of excellent and no way, to the love of classic rock, to the great concept of hosting a TV show in your basement. Not only does this show you what you can accomplish in life, it also shows you that sometimes big companies are just in it for money. They hardly care about your creative process and just want you to bring in ratings, fans and money. Only Garth can sum this up perfectly : "Benjamin is nobody's friend. If Benjamin were an ice cream flavor, he'd be pralines and dick." True say Garth, true say indeed. 9 A Shot in the Dark ![]() Ah, The Pink Panther series. Well the original ones. Genius films, but all of them fail in comparison to what is the greatness of A Shot in the Dark. Probably one of the darker family films, it features implications of rape, has several murders, a nudist colony scene, and more murder! Yay! This movie introduced me to the genius that is Peter Sellers. He is probably one of my favourite actors and from this movie I've watched other movies of his that I love like Dr. Stranglove, Lolita, The Party, and the rest of the Pink Panther series. A Shot in the Dark is a mix of slapstick, parody of detective/film noir films, and just solid writing. It's very Seinfeld like almost. I think Seinfeld or possibly Naked Gun is the best comparison to this movie. And hey, I love both those things. 8 Opening Credits of Watchmen So, specific eh? Well, since the whole movie didn't really impact me (the comic however really did), nothing can describe the amount of emotion I feel during the opening credits of Watchmen. It has so much that I grew up with. You see, I love history. Probably my 2nd favourite subject in High School, next to English. Not only history, if I could live in any time period it would be the 60's and 70's. I grew up very interested in that time period. The music, the movies, the tv shows, the counter culture, the rise of equal rights, I love it all. Seeing the 50's to the 80's being recreated with superheroes, political messages, great film making and Bob Dylan, really had a large impact on me. I was able to hold it in when I saw it in theaters, but the 2nd time, I'll admit I cried a bit. It's an unreal feeling seeing your childhood influences and interests being recreated in front of you. If this opening credit had a wrestling scene and a shot of the Simpsons doing whatever, I would probably cry like a baby. CLAB. That's what I would be doing, CLABING. |

7 The Room![]() Oh my... This movie is sooo bad that it's amazing. I have spent more money watching this movie then any other movie. Once you add up train tickets of 13 bucks from my town to Toronto and back, 10 dollars for the movie ticket, and seeing this 3 times. It adds up. Plus I bought the dvd for 15 bucks. All together that's 84 dollars I have spent seeing this movie, and I plan to continue in the summer of going to midnight screenings. Why? It's so much fun. The crowd yelling at the screen, the inside jokes, throwing spoons at the screen, taking buses and subways after the movie and hear a large majority of the people talk in Tommy Wiseau's accent. It's a life changing movie. It makes you appreciate the little things and brings us together as a society. As Tommy Wiseau's famous character Johnny would say "If everyone would learn to love each other, the world would be a better place." Despite his poor film making abilities, he's really on to something here. I mean, as Taxi Driver's midnight screening down the street will have people fighting each other, The Rooms midnight screening has people clapping to the beat of the songs during sex scenes, throwing spoons together, and all together say with great pride and enthusiasm "Oh Hi Mark!" 6 Planes, Trains and Automobiles ![]() So it's extremely hard for me to decide what my all time favourite comedy is between this and A Shot in the Dark. However, this movie had a greater impact on me. I find both John Candy and Steve Martin give their best performances ever and well this introduced me to John Hughes who made classic films like Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Breakfast Club, Uncle Buck and wrote movies like Christmas Vacation, European Vacation, Home Alone and Dutch. Although, ya all those movies are good, this movie is completely out of Hughes' element. This is an adult comedy. Not like today's adult comedies with gross out sex humour, nudity, and all that stuff, this movie is meant for an adult audience and deals with situations very out of Hughes' family oriented films. It's very hard for a director or writer to write out of his element and as someone who would like to write or make a large variety of different genres, it's inspirational that not only can you write out of the element, you might make your best movie ever when you do so. 5 Un Chien Andalou ![]() Mmm... slicing eyeballs. Fun, fun, fun! So this movie is about, well, only God would fucking know. Although I've always liked weird movies, this was the first movie that I watched that would fit in the Surreal Genre. Eye balls are sliced, woman's clothes are disappearing, ants are crawling out a guys hand, a severed hand is found on the streets, doors lead to a door on a beach, a dead donkey is dragged across a room and did I mention an eye ball is sliced? Well, it was actually a cows eye, not a real human eye. Still gross when you see the gooey inside leak out. This movie made me get into surreal movies and expand into foreign films, really old films, and anything else strange. Not many experiences match the first time you hear that catchy upbeat background music, see a cloud past through a moon, and then see that young woman up there getting her eye being pulled open for what will soon be.... |

4 Back to the Future![]() I love time travel. As stated before, I love history, so in essence I love the idea of traveling to any time I want. Sure there are movies that have used time travel before Back to the Future, but the thing about Back to the Future is it's perfect. It's a perfect movie. It has everything you need to capture an audience. You would think that the struggle of Marty going back to the future would be big enough to be the story, but him preventing his own birth, well that just blew my fucking mind when I saw it. It also lead me to really think, what were are parents like when they were teenagers? Were they similar to us or were they maybe vastly different like Marty and his dad? Hell, even Marty and his mom. You can really understand Marty is a combination of both his parents (duh...). His mom is kind of a bad girl who smokes, steals her parents alcohol, and somewhat of a boy chaser. His dad is a loser, somewhat nice, but has a specific interest that he really wants to follow as a career. I would like to meet my parents teenage selfs. I wonder if they are anything like my current self. Oh ya, the movie talks about following dreams or something, I dunno. I just liked seeing that fucker go 88. 3 El Topo ![]() So, Un Chien Andalou introduced me to the world of surrealism, El Topo made me fucking believe I was living in this world. Just look at that image...Did you think it was a painting? Well it isn't. Ya the cloud backdrop is, but everything on that screen is real. The horse moves, some sand is blown onto the picture, it's so unusual. This sets the tone for the whole movie. The whole movie as an unusual atmosphere. It's a breathtaking movie. The trailer's opening line is "Be prepared, to live the most wonderful experience of your life." and it is extremely true! I don't think there will ever be a movie like this. No matter how hard anyone will try, no one will capture the violence, the religious imagery, the sex, the spaghetti western feel, and pure surreal low budget midnight movie atmosphere. It's eye opening, it's beautiful, it's magical, it's the greatest cult movie ever made. 2 2001: A Space Odyssey ![]() In my honest opinion, this is the best movie ever made. Not my favourite film, it is slow at times, but it's unfucking believable. Imagine this, it's 1968, no computers are made that can create CGI and yet this film looks amazing. It looks and feels so real. I usually hate realism in films, but this is just fucking ridiculous at well it looks. Not just the visual aspect, it's story is very smart and very interesting. Hell, my logical reason for dropping out of school is because I am working on something that has similar themes to 2001. It has an anti-technological message, but a very large message about how we are losing our touch with humanity. To this day people have analyzed this movie to death and still can't decide on an exact answer or solution to what it all means. Especially the last 20 minutes that features an intense display of lights, multicoloured terrain and a white room where a man watches himself die and be reborn as a starchild. Brilliant...I have no idea what is going on...and I fucking love it!! |
