So once again it's Christmas and of course the one movie that people go crazy about is A Christmas Story.![]() Now.... I hate this movie. I can't fucking stand it. I am finally glad this year, TBS (now changed to Peachtree TV in my area) is not showing there famous 24 hours of A Christmas Story on Christmas day. To make it worse I share my birthday with it. November 18 1983 is when this movie came out and I was born November 18 1990. Another grand trick the universe played on me. Vincent Canby of the New York Times says "There are a number of small, unexpectedly funny moments in A Christmas Story, but you have to possess the stamina of a pearl diver to find them." I fully agree with this. There are some funny parts like when the Dad is reading a box that says Fragile and he pronounces it Fra gilly and says mm It must be Italian. That got a good lol out of me, but the rest of the movie gave me a good >:( face. Maybe I don't like it cause the kid looks like Drew Carrey ![]() but I like Drew Carrey, I find him very funny. I think it's more of a generation gap. Most people who enjoy this movie are in there 20's or 30's or 40's. I think the way parents are these days actually going out of their way and creating riots in malls and stores for gifts is completley opposite to what it was like 30 years ago. Every family had no money somehow and parents were strict as hell. That's the stereotypical 60's, or 70's family. My parents are the complete opposite. They try their best to find my gifts and they aren't strict at all, well they don't need to be strict since I never get in trouble. I think the love of this movie will eventually die down because from looking at imdb.com's voting history the average for people under 29 is a 7.7 which is pretty low compared to the people over 30 who have voting averages of over 8. Non U.S. People seem to not like this movie either. 6.7 average for all non U.S. people regardless of age or gender but a 8.2 for all U.S. people regardless of age or gender. As this world becomes more multicultural this movie will loose all it's love. As a person who hates this film I say good, I am hoping the same happens to that other classic overrated movie known as Citizen Kane, which I might do a write up of later one day. When it comes to it, I guess it's just different strokes for different folks. My holiday classic movies are Scrooged, Home Alone, Planes Trains and Automobiles, and Wakkos Wish. Does anyone else hate this movie or does everyone here like it? |

i completely fucking agree with you i never understood why they would play that piece of crap for a whole day i cant even sit through the first 30 mins of one airing let alone the whole taking up the time of which they could air other great moves like you mentioned Home Alone (i only watched and liked 1 and 2) and Planes Trains and Automobiles but then again anything with John Candy is good am i right? |
