The debris belt, had been a location of almost endless destruction. At the beginning of combat in space, it had been one of the primary combat locations, until it eventually ended up being cluttered with the corpses and wreckages of massive vessels and mobile suits. Most of the equipment was aged beyond the more recent generation of humans, but it still served as a reminder of the equipment that first fought under human control during the wars. Now, multiple vessels flying the Defluo Idcirco flag on the outer hull, glided across the black gap that marked the void of space surrounding earth like an abyss. Stars glittered in the distance, but because of the bright blue and green planet that rested below, were not as visible to the naked eye. Fortunately nobody had come here to star gaze, or sit and considering the possible fates of the mobile suits that rested in the scrap heaps of space....no....the Debris belt would for once bear witness to actual creation within the varied list of past mechanical murders. Two Columbus Kai class vessels, accompanied by many smaller one-man construction pods, had been assigned the task of building what would be labeled 'Black Thorn'. Their location for the construction being the only space available; the debris belt. Upon entering the junk space, the smaller work pods broke formation, floating away from eachother as small gray bursts of air from maneuvering thrusters placed about on the work pods. Soon, each work pod had started seeking out, and possibly already found materials that were suitable for the refinery packed onto one of the Columbus vessels. The other Columbus, had opened it's cargo bay doors, revealing the prizes that rested inside. Equipment, such as nozzles and armor plating, had been stacked up and packed into the large space available. Despite the obviously large amount of recourses available though, the vessel would need to make two more trips before everything needed to construct the space station was available. Small work pods, along with the engineering staff dressed in their impact resistant space suits and strengthened powered armor, carried parts out of the Columbus and into a gap floating in the middle of the Debris belt, an area that had been worked on to keep void of unnecessary debris so that the construction site was big enough for the station to be completed. Not too far off, a fighter squadron moved into formation in a patrol route. Three other areas, similar fighters moved into patrol formations as well. |

The space station, having been in development for a good deal of time now, had come to the final steps of the overall construction process. The thin needle like structure, enlarging at the ends like a weight floating through space, had been surrounded by smaller construction vessels, the small dots moving panels and armor plating to the uncovered sections of the facility. Near the middle, large scaffolding remained wrapped around the thinner portion of the structure, much like a skeleton. Floating within the scaffolding, were larger capital ships that had been undergoing construction as soon as the construction docks were operational. Floating just below them, were four more of identical design yet fully built status, drifting to their respective docking positions. Fighters flew in formations around the space station, performing training maneuvers, and releasing mock missiles as practice. The station itself, was lined with multiple guidance lights. Long communications antennas branched out from the hull and towards space, like steel thorns of a marvelous black rose. Along the upper section, where the command and control station had been built into the primary structure, large letters had been printed along the shining black steel. Black Thorn Communications buzzed about as defensive stations were given tests for the possible surprise attack or unexpected malfunction. Overall, the station was almost completely operational, and already churning out vessels of the capital class. From Black Thorn, came a stepping stone into space, and the first ever private fleet. |
