I'm not sure that he asked if he could help it but Dumbledore read his mind and answered his inspoken question.

The point is that the Voldy Thing" was the last tie he had to life. Dumbledore knew Riddle so well, that he was positive and more than once he stated there was no help to be given.

See if Riddle was so arrogant that when Harry decides to go back to the Forbidden Forest where he had had the last encounter with Voldemort, Bellatrix tries to assist Voldemort and he, (Arrogant SOB that he is) rejects her help when she tries to assist him in standing up. But he is such a coward that he dares not go forward personally to see if Harry really is dead.
His loss and Harry's gain!
