I can't like Arya that much. She is so distant... nearly arrogant.

I'm curious. I didn't get that impression from the the book. Buy hey, it's your choice and I respect that!

As to who is my favorite charater, I have too many for my own good; Brom, Eragon, Saphira, Angela and Roran to name a few. :D

Funny how Oromis came to praise Saphira's skills. I just love her biting remarks, here sense of humor, her wisdom and her love for Eragon. She seems not to allow her love blind her to Eragon's faults and she's not afraid to knock him on the head when he's being, "tarado". I don't know how you can translate this to English without losing the effect of the word!

I personally do not like Ayra and not for her aloofness. I do however, can admire and respect her principles.
I think I've lost count on the amount of times I've said this. I guess once more won't kill me.

Ayra has a very high sense of honor and dignity. She is very much aware of her strengths as an elf, as a warrior and as the daughter of a queen. She has a striking sense of individuality which was the cause to fall in disfavor with her mother.
She made a choice, one which was based on her very own desire to protect the continuity of the dragons, with disregard to her own well-being, and this she did. She is honest and has been honest with Eragon in regards to her feelings for him. And in the event in which she "would" have had feelings for him, (at least until the last one she did not gave indication to this) she would have kept her peace in favor of the "good of the many" as to not be a hurdle, or distraction in Eragon's duty, trainning and mission. Her aloofness is inbred. It is part of the culture of elves. Not even Oromis ever lost his cool. They are not emotional and keep tight reins on their emotions. (She did lose somewhat of it when she slammed Eragon's fairth, though) She I can understand why some readers can dislike her.

define aloofness in your own words and can you give examples of what she has done to make her aloof?

I see it as being distant and always in absolute control of herself. She is very detached, but I also view it as part of her identity as an elf. They don't go crazy with drama like Angela, or Roran or even Eragon.
