IMNC, if you need to make any clarification to me or any other person, USE THE PM system. Another post like the last one and I will issue you a warning.

OK, before anyone yells at me for doube posting, MY LAST POST WAS MID-last month!

This is how I, personally, (not saying this is what will happen) can view the whole situation IN REGARDS TO rORAN BEING THE NEXT rIDER.. I am looking at the storyline AND what may come to be in the last book. PLS everyone keep in mind this is just speculative.

We need to look a little into what will or may be the “New Alagaesia.”

It is obvious a new generation will, like the phoenix, rise from within the ashes of a virtually "destroyed" world. So that this new generation may re-build and rule in peace, justice and unity all those of the old generation must perish; thus Galbatorix, representing the fallen humans. Islanzadi, representing the reign of the elves, and Oromis, as the last of what may be , the earlier generation of Riders of the Light.
So far Ajihad, the representative of the humans (or men) of the Light has been killed. Hrothgar, representative of the dwarves and the glue that kept all the clans together, has also fallen in hands of the evil side.
So logic tells me the other "oldies” need to fall under Galbatorix's hand or command. I feel this is when the "New Generation" will come to play the resurgence of a new hope. This will not easily come to be. They will seem to be losing the battle (...then when all seems lost and your power is insufficient...) as they will be against Galbatorix and Murtagh.
Nasuada will continue to be leading the Varden, her strategies in battle, her no-nonsense approach and determination will waiver but she will work out her way through her dismay and doubts. (Recall what Elva revealed to her in her first encounter.)
Roran will be a participant in the fight against Galbatorix and will show his ability to lead, persuade and attack against all odds. (He has done it once before with the villagers.)
Ayra will be the next Rider and as soon as Eragon and she decipher the riddle Solembaum offered, (...go to the Rock of Kuthian and speak your name to open the Vault of Souls...) they will unite and confront the last battle.
It makes complete sense Ayra should be the next Rider. We have a female who is proficient and knowledgeable in magic. She, as an elf, had endurance, speed, and experience in battle. She will not need to undergo the training Eragon went through.
Under the New Generation, she will represent the Elvin race. (She has expressed not wanting to be Queen.)
So let's review; Nasuada leading the Varden and representing the Human race. Eragon, the first of the New Generation of Riders, nor human, nor Elf. Orik I believe will be the new dwarven King. He has had dealings with Humans, Elves and Riders. This will not be accomplished without contention. We need to remember NOT ALL dwarves approve of the advocacy Hrothgar held during his time with Varden and Riders. (And we need not forget he insulted that particular clan from Tarnag when he invited Eragon to be the “adopted son”.)
So, united under the banner of the "New Generation" we have Nasuada, Eragon, Orik and Ayra. Each one representing one of the races. A balance of all the powers. Two males and two females.

Well there you have it. That's how I (MY VERY PERSONAL OPINION) have interpreted the books and the storyline. Make of it whatever you wish!

Andrew, I know your favorite character is Vanir, actually WE ALL know that. And him being cool has nothing to do with the issue at hand.
But IMNC has a point, if he would be included in the New Generation of Riders then the balance would cease to exist, favoring the Elven population.
There is only one big question mark in my analysis; Who would rule the Elven race if Ayra becomes a Rider? She has made clear she has no interest whatsoever in becoming Queen. I am assuming, according to her dialogue with Eragon, a ruler would be chosen within the hierarchy of the elves.

IMNC has a... brought up something I've considered, but again the balance would favor the Elves, so as him, I'd prefer to see her become a Rider.

Because she would be Leader plus Rider. She have would power in two different categories. In my scheme, being a Leader of a race and being a Rider are two different classifications.
