I remember at the time of Richard Harris's death, rumors were that iti was offered to him, but then he was still doing the Lord of the Rings. In later interviews he said"I was never asked." or something around those lines.
About Ian Mckellen I seem to recall something , not very nice, of him calling the role of Dumbledore -" Dumbletwit". The Harry Potter forums were on fire with indignation.

XD If I ha played Gandalf in such a fantastic movie like LotR I would say the same about the part of Dumbledore... :D At least I would have refused because how the film describes Dumbledore it really IS a quite bad role compared to Gandalf...

At the time there were other things going on in Ian Mckellen's life, besides LOTR, which were quite controversial.

Still Richard Harris was an actor of renown, a poly-fascistic man indeed. He had accomplished much during his life and the comment I believe was much uncalled for.

Oh, fine then. I'm not really informed on what is going on in some actors lives...

However, I still think that they could have done better than choosing the actor who is now playing Dumbledore.

Wanderfalke, I am not critizing your position. I was just stating an incident that happened back then. It was all over the Potter boards. Afterall, I was first a Potter fan then came all the others! ;) And I agree with you 120%. They could have done better than Gamdon. I don'tlike him a bit!

Who is Gamdon? I think that the only thing I didn't like was that they changed the castle and in the third one made them hardly ever wear robes.

They should have a group of kids (and some adults Lady Phoenixe ;)) to decide who should play roles based on how they see the characters in their minds. I'm not happy with the series, and I hope they make a remake, like they did with the Chronicles of Narnia.

Ask ten people how they imagine Harry Potter characters to look like and you'll get ten different opinions! You can't please everone. I'm pretty sure there are others who like Gamdon or the Sirius actor.

I, for example, liked the changes they did on the castle... ^^

I also imagined Mad-Eye-Moody very different, but I still like what he looks like in the film.

Still, they could have done a better job on the actors... :(

I understand what you are saying and I believe you are in the right. However, with the character of Dumbledore, the characterization on the screen is completely opposite of what is presented in the book.

Sirius would fall on the first of your observations, as well as Moody. The Rita casted was very much similar to what was described in the book.

I think that Christopher Columbas was onto something by actually following the books plotline ;)
