HE's in the gray. Not good, white, or bad, black, somewhere in the middle, gray.

You posted 3 minutes after I did.

I dont think he had a choice to make the right or wrong choices after he got captured by Galbatorix.

I still think he did have a choice. He could have died in honor. Remember this:

"Galbatorix wants your willing cooperation Without that, you're worse than useless to him. So the question becomes, If you are ever faced with this choice, are you willing to die for what you believe in? For that is the only way you can deny him." Eragon 197

I may be expecting too much from Murtagh, but if Eragon who is younger than Murtagh has as high degree on honorability, why couldn't he do the "honorable thing?

 ("We wouldn't have a story, wouldn't we?)

We don't know that. But he may have been ordered to. He may have, but I doubt it.

:( I know, the fact that he killed now places him in a bad footing with the dwarves. When Orik finds out that he was the one to kill him........ :( :( Things are going to get nasty for Murtagh!

About this, check out page 347 in Eldest. It's pretty well explained by Eragon, or at I least, that may be the answer to your question.

I don't have my book....

Sorry, :D too long to copy it :P Go get one at the library.

In a few words, Oromis had given Eragon, a hypothetical situation on the importance of having magician in a battle. He was able to guess which would be Galbatorix's movement and why. Without him knowing, he fortold what had happened in Surda (the Black Hand trying to kill her) and what happened with Hrothgar.
