I think that the question should rather be: will eragon have the heart to kill murtagh? Except roran he is the only family he has left! eragon would be able to kill galbotrix if arya is the next rider and join forces

Eragon did try to kill him before he knew they were blood related, it's another thing to attempt it with this knowledge hanging over his head!

I believe that Eregon killing Murtagh will be one of those things that he can not bring himself around to do, not only because he is his family but because he knows how much Murtagh has been and is still going through. He knows that Murtagh is doing this against his will, and he will try to help him out of it.

I think he killed Hrothgar just for the sake of doing it. I believe it was a demonstration to Eragon of the power of the Darkside.

I disagree with you on this one. I think it was part of Galbatorix's plan to eliminate all the "Old" leaders and leave the Varden & Dwarves without their leaders. This would create insecurity and fear, being an advantage to his standpoint. This is also way I think Oromis and Islanzadi will die in the next book.

That would leave the scene open for the "new Generation" of Leaders and Riders.

This makes a lot of sense, it is much more deeply thought out then my theory.

I mean, Oromis gave Eragon a situation for him to analyze and it was him, Eragon, who gave the reader this tidbit of information. If CP was trying to foreshadow or not, I don't know. At least, to me, it would make sense why he ordered Ajihad and Hrothgar out of the picture "permanently."
What Galbatorix DOESN'T know, is that Oromis still lives!

Check out page 347 in Eldest. :D

Wouldnt that be horrible to live with the false security that you killed all the riders, and one day found out that you failed to destroy one?

Bad luck for Galbatorix, I would say! :P Good for everyone else, though! I don't think Eragon would have had any chance of defeating Galbatorix without training from a rider.

Even though we are not told how and why Oromis was captured/escaped, I bet he (Galbatorix) wouldn't be too cocky if he knew he was alive.

If Galbatorix IS NOT aware of the damage perpetuated on Oromis, yeah, I can see him shake somewhat in his boots. After all Ayra escaped/or was rescued and she is still powerful in magic!
