I KNOW THAT I AM RIPPING IMNOTCRAZY'S IDEA OFF, BUT:
Arya's the Next Rider!
1. she has green magic
2. she is a great spell caster making her need less training
3. she's a great warrior
4. it solves Eragon's love problem, which from CP's point of view is a BIG reason
5. she and Eragon would actually stand a chance against Galby and Murtagh
SORRY, I'MNOTCRAZY!!!!!!!!!

AND ALSO, I'M NOT SHOUTING, I JUST HAVE AN OBSESSION WITH CAPITALS!

Yeah, he's arrogant, cruel, mean and obnoxious! He would be a perfect candidate for the next rider.... on Galbatorix's side!

Nah, he is not that bad. His motives behind his actions are understandable and I'm not sure, if I would have acted differently in his position. Think of the disappointment he must have felt when he saw Eragon's poor fighting! All his hopes seemed to be destroyed when Eragon had one of his fits of pain during the fight. Besides, in his eyes Eragon was not more than a weak human, and to be honest, any elf would have been better for a rider at that point of the story... well, looking at physical strength only, of course.
Vanir apologised afterwards, so I think we should forgive him. ^_^

You are a better person than I Wanderfalke, cause I refuse to "forgive and forget."
I can understand his disappointment. What I cannot understand is that he knew humans and elves are different. He knew it is the dragon who choses the Rider. And Saphira made her choice loud and clear.
He did not even acknowledge the fact that Eragon DID "rid all Alagaesia from a great evil" as Oromis said! He was too proud and obnoxious to make any kind of acknowledgement to his deed!
No, I can't let it go! *Inhaling* It's fiction, breathe,*exhaling* it's fiction! I'm OK!*
